Social media plays a very important role in today’s world. With the popularity of smart phones and government’s initiative of Digital India, almost every Indian household has one person who is a social media freak.

Such a huge social media attraction made public figures use this platform as influencers and surprisingly our very own Prime Minister uses his social media accounts like Twitter, Instagram etc to keep the public posted on both his personal and state affairs.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is one of the most popular leader on social media with more than 53 million followers on Twitter and 35 million on Instagram.

However, the PM recently rocked social media by sharing the probable news of deactivating all his social media accounts on Sunday i.e 9th March, 2020.

Is It Real?

All social media handles of the Indian Prime Minister updated the netizens about his introspection over resigning from social media. The tweet read, “This Sunday, thinking of giving up my social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & YouTube.”

The tweet further mentions that he’ll keep us posted on the same.

Soon after the tweet went viral, social media was flooded with tweets, comments, reshares going along the PMO’s latest intimation.

Netizens gave the news a rather hilarious turn and the post was made into a meme in no time.

The Prime Minister, who seems to be behaving like a 13-year-old who disables his social media account after a heartbreak, became a joke on the internet.

What Do People Say?

Making use of the situation, celebrities, politicians, and comedians did not hold back from commenting over the same and roasted the honourable Prime Minister in spectacular fashion.

Rahul Gandhi responds saying, “Give up hatred, not social media account.”

Popular congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala attacked the PM by saying that he should give the same advice to his party people who intimidate the public by posting nonsense on social media.

Another user replied that deactivating social media is one more added to the list of broken promises by our dear Prime Minister.

AAP’s social media team member advised Modi Ji  saying, “Don’t leave social media, leave the nonsensical posts and drama behind instead.”

Another user retweeted by asking Modi ji to go the extra mile and resign from the post of PM as well.

Geeta Sunderam, a popular writer wrote on Twitter that deactivating his social media is the best thing Modi ji can do for the country right now.

President of Tamil Nadu Congress says this is happy news for India and gave his own reasons for the same.

Godi Media Is Hurt

While most of the left wing people were celebrating, the move announced by the PM offended the Godi Media and Bhakts.

Not only this, they were shocked by such a news and showed support for not letting their dearest Prime Minister leave social media just like that.

The Bhakts even said that they will also leave social media if Modi Ji does so and soon #ModiQuitsSocialMedia and #NoSir were trending on Twitter urging Modi ji not to leave social media.

While Twitteratis were speculating the reason for Modi Ji quitting social media, the PM posted another tweet that explained the reason as to what it meant when he said he’ll be deactivating social media.

He says that he will be making this move on Women’s day to honour the women who inspire us and let his social media ignite motivation in millions of women whose work inspires the world.

Consequently, the hashtag SheInspiresUs started trending on Twitter. While Bhakts and Godi media is praising such a thoughtful move, majority are calling it as a public stunt to distract the people from real issues like Delhi riots, criminal like leaders etc.

The viral post is anticipated to be a ‘Golden Tweet’ and is live with more than 495,400 retweets and 1,758,000 likes.
