When you think of the word ‘beggar’ a very typical image would come to mind. Usually, unfortunate people in extreme economic conditions unable to earn a proper living and thus have to literally beg for alms in order to get by the day.

These people depend on others to give them basic needs like food, clothes, shoes, money, and they often live in unfavourable conditions from slums to some not even having any type of home and having to live on roadsides and more.

However, there is a very interesting concept of the rich beggars, who earn more than not just an average beggar but actually more than anyone could imagine. There are actually ‘rich beggars’ out there with some right here in India that despite being one still own flats, properties, have huge earnings and sizeable net worths, yes actual net worth.

Who Is The World’s Richest Beggar?

Bharat Jain is said to be one of the richest beggars in India and possibly the world too earning a whopping Rs 70,000 and 80,000 a month from just begging.

His story was first revealed in 2015 when it was found that the beggar usually seen at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (known as CST) or Azad Maidan was earning this much on a monthly basis and even owned a personal flat worth Rs. 80 lakhs in the state.

Bharat Jain, said to be the world’s richest beggar as per reports comes from Mumbai, Maharashtra and begs on several Mumbai streets.

Due to financial conditions, Jain had not been able to get a formal education but today through begging itself Jain has managed to amass a very sizeable fortune where as per reports his net worth is said to be somewhere around Rs 7.5 crores or $1 million.

Jain mostly working in the Parel region lives with his wife, two sons, brother, and father with both his children enrolled at a convent school. The family lives in a 1BHK  duplex residence in Parel.

He is also said to own several properties like a two-bedroom flat in Mumbai costing around Rs. 1.2 crore, and two shops in Thane being rented for Rs. 30,000 a month. Jain apparently earns almost Rs. 2,000 to 2500 in a single day from just begging and while his family requests him not to beg anymore Bharat still does so.

Jain is actually not the only rich beggar in India with there being several. In 2019, reports revealed of how Mumbai Police uncovered Burju Chandra Azad’s fixed deposit of Rs. 8.77 lakhs and Rs. 1.5 lakhs of cash after he passed away in an accident crossing a railway track.

Azad was actually a beggar in Mumbai and lived in Govandi.

Besides this, there is Sarvatia Desi a beggar from Patna who lives behind the Ashok Cinema but has a monthly income of Rs. 50,000.

Another one, Krishna Kumar Gite who while begging at Mumbai’s Charni Road has an estimated monthly income of Rs 40,000 and 50,000 and owns a flat in Nala Sopara reportedly around Rs. 5,00,000.
