DEvil: Mystery Of The Omen And 666 – The Alleged Mark Of The Beast

2540

Last night was horror movie night at my house.  All curled up in my bed, me and my sister tuned into a movie called “The Omen”. The Strange thing about The Omen, it’s not your typical jump scares and white sheet ghost movie but in fact, the film covers some of the deepest aspects of the Antichrist.

Only the very mention of the number “666” causes a lot of chirrups. It’s been considered “unlucky” and “evil” by many but they aren’t even vaguely sure why. Some call it the “devil’s number”, others call it “mark of the beast” and well several other things, suffice it to say that people are terrified of anything that concerns with these three repeated digits.

So why is that really? Let’s take this matter, one bit at a time.

Firstly, what is this movie “The Omen”?

S-P-O-I-L-E-R-S!

To be precise, The Omen is about a baby boy, who is supposedly the child of the Antichrist. Since his mother died giving birth to him, a rich, big time diplomat adopts him and poses him to his wife as their own son as she had actually given birth to a stillborn.

Strangest things start happening around the house, the baby is repulsive to everything holy which sort of makes the parents wonder until they consult a priest who suspects there might be something fishy.

AND THERE WAS.  That kid had “666” carved on this scalp. Isn’t that spooky?

Alright, we get that the kid has 666 on his scalp? But what does it mean?

Going by my basic knowledge of horror movies, it just means that the kid is the villain, simple.

But a little digging yielded me some more results.

According to the Book of Revelation, 666 is the mark of the beast with seven heads and ten horns that come out of the sea (Revelation 13:1, 17, 18). This beast is a symbol of the worldwide political system, which rules over “every tribe and people and tongue and nation” (Revelation 13:7).

For the uninitiated, Book of Revelation is actually a part of The New Testament which is one of the biblical canons that Christians believe in.

Also according to Bible, humanity was created on the sixth day (Genesis 1:31) but without entering the seventh day of God’s own rest it is said that Adam and Eve would have been imperfect and incomplete. Here’s where we conclude that the triple six figures only stand for the fact that the beast and his followers fell short of God’s creative purposes for humanity.

So, what does it have to do with Antichrist?

Alright folks, here’s where the mystery unfolds. Antichrist isn’t some fella who is anti-Christ, but an entirely different concept that has been discussed in the Book of Revelation.

The book describes a deceiving imitation of the Holy Trinity of God by Satan, the False Prophet, and the Antichrist (Revelation 16:13). All the three figures in “666” exemplify nothing more than a deceiver who embodies just like God and falsely claims to be the Christ (Jesus).

Although there have been no such unusual or paranormal instances of the number of the beast, people still have expressed an irrational fear of the number. Even the ex- US President Ronald Reagan, when signed out from the White House to move to his home in Los Angeles after the 1988 election, had its address from 666 St. Cloud Road—changed to 668 St. Cloud Road.

It’s evident how religious poppycock still fuels much of our silly superstitions. Some say that religion won’t survive if it’s stripped of its superstition and that they both go hand in hand. I say believe in whatever you want to, for belief is a purely empirical concept. Just be smart enough to not act mum when that very belief instigates you to do something ludicrous.
