Breakfast Babble: Weird Things I’ve Learnt From My Pets

-

Breakfast Babble is ED’s own little space on the interwebs where we gather to discuss ideas and get pumped up (or not) for the day. We judge things too. Sometimes. Always. Whatever, call it catharsis and join in, people.

Having two cats is like living with tiny, fluffy therapists – if therapists ignored you half the time and sat on your laptop at the worst possible moment. While I thought I was just signing up for cute cuddles and aesthetically pleasing Instagram stories, my pets ended up schooling me on love, respect, and – ironically – humanity.

And the weirdest part? If a human behaved like my cats, they would either be considered a saint or an absolute menace to society.

Unconditional Love Is a Scam (Unless You’re a Cat)

My cats love me whether I’m broke, sad, or looking like a sleep-deprived zombie at 2 AM. They don’t care if I’ve achieved nothing in life as long as I open their food packets on time. Try expecting that kind of love from a human, and you’ll either receive a “What do you bring to the table?” speech or a motivational reel on why you need to “hustle harder.”

Respect Is Earned, Not Demanded

My cats don’t care about age, power, or the number of followers you have on Instagram. If they like you, they’ll sit on your lap. If they don’t, they’ll give you a death stare so intense it’ll make you rethink your life choices.

Imagine if humans operated like this – half of society would collapse overnight, and the other half would finally receive the reality check they deserve.

Humans: The Least Civilised Species

I see people abandoning pets, littering the streets, and treating animals like disposable toys. And yet, those same animals still trust us, love us, and forgive us. Meanwhile, my cats – who literally knock my phone off the table for fun – have never once betrayed me. If that doesn’t prove that humans are the real problem, I don’t know what does.

Being Yourself Is the Ultimate Flex

My cats sleep when they want, demand food without shame, and ignore people guilt-free. If I did that, I’d be called lazy, rude, and possibly unemployed. Society loves to preach “be yourself,” but the moment you actually do, people start sending you “Are you okay?” texts.

You Can Love Someone and Still Pretend They Don’t Exist Sometimes

My cats will cuddle with me one minute and act like I’m invisible the next. In human relationships, this is considered “toxic.” But honestly, if people mastered this balance, we’d have fewer clingy partners, less WhatsApp drama, and a lot more inner peace.

At this point, I’m convinced my cats are more emotionally evolved than most humans. Maybe we were meant to learn from them, but instead, we just put them in bow ties and call it a day.
