Breakfast Babble is ED’s own little space on the interwebs where we gather to discuss ideas and get pumped up (or not) for the day. We judge things too. Sometimes. Always. Whatever, call it catharsis and join in people.
If there could be one thing every person would agree on, it would be that Instagram reels or YouTube shorts can beat drugs when it comes to addiction.
It all started with the banning of TikTok. One fine day, Meta thought of introducing its replacement on Instagram, and now, all of us are stuck in a loop.
Where does all the time go when you start scrolling? It’s literally like fighting the urge to not click the Reels icon on your phone when you open Insta because you know, that even if by mistake, the moment your finger touches that icon, you’ll be glued to your screen for the next two hours.
Never had I imagined getting so addicted to something. “Just two more minutes”, I think determinedly, while I am rotting my brain, enjoying the comment section of some cringe reel, and the minutes turn into two hours because every reel seems to be relatable and funny, and you feel like “just one more.”

Lying on your bed in your pyjamas the entire day and scrolling was the best time-pass during the two years of lockdown, but now it is the best way to kill time because congratulations, we are all hooked on to it.
Reels before going to sleep, while eating, in the car, when you’re getting bored when you’re not getting bored, when you have work to do, when you don’t have work to do. I think we can better identify celebrities from their back, more than our relatives, thanks to Viral Bhayani reels.
Our brain rot is the source of the profit Meta is earning. All generations are suffering from this brain rot.
Be it your father watching YouTube shorts at full volume after dinner, making the entire house listen to what they’re watching, your mother sending you not-funny Facebook clips, your younger siblings doing some weird Instagram trend after school, or your friends filling your DM section with every reel they watch. Why god, why?!
My New Year resolve was to come out of this loop. While we’re halfway through 2024, I have not achieved even a quarter of my goal (still trying, though). Are you suffering from it too? What are you doing to get out of the matrix? Let us know in the comments below.
