EOTY is back with its 6th edition! The biggest battle of the wits event at SSE (Symbiosis School of Economics) with an aim to find a true economist who walks amongst us. This year’s theme; Dystopia: The Perfect Utopia.
Economist of the Year (EOTY) is an educational event tapping into every contestant’s intellectual and enthusiastic side. It shall test the skills required in our dynamic world and reveal the economist hiding in you.
EOTY has helped bring forward some great economists with colossal potential through its creative and innovative competitions.
It’s a competition that would challenge the students to use their attributes like critical thinking, analytical abilities, and general economic knowledge.
With three fascinating rounds, this competition will take you on a journey through history, make you consider theories of the present, and get you thinking about reforms to be used in the future. Participants will use their academic knowledge and creative thinking to come up with solutions to some of the most challenging problems.
The event is divided into 3 sub-events:
Audentes Fortuna Iuvat
An initial round to rock their boat! This will test their skills of strategy, decision making and level-headedness. The topics range from LAW to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) with sprinkles of real-world application of the G20 nations all over.
They call the round “Audentes Fortuna Iuvat”, meaning Fortune Favours the Bold. To be a true economist, one has to look out for themselves and global markets while taking risks. The participants better be ready for a bumpy ride from the get-go!
Sic Parvis Magna
The top 50 participants shall move a step closer to the title. Here onwards, they shall be given a prompt about a G20 nation, its well-being, its assets and how it performs on the world stage.
The aim of the round is for each participant to individually assess the country and help the nation from its current stage to grow, from delving into international trade to focusing on extrapolating and optimising its own resources, to be fit to be called a member of the Group of 20. The name of this round is “Sic Parvis Magna”, meaning Greatness from Humble Beginnings. An apt name for a great game!
Panel Discussion
To inculcate the culture of SSE, the third and final round is on research. AT SSE, the team believes research is the true gospel to any question. Knowing its importance in the real world, our esteemed panel would critique the presentation skills based on their research of our final five.
In the past five editions, they have seen novel ideas and theories from participants, they expect no less from them this time. The panel then decides on which candidate deserves the coveted title of “Economist Of The Year, 2023” and would then be rightfully awarded to the victor!
EOTY shall be judged by a panel of eminent academicians and scholars who are proficient in various fields of economics.
The first winning cash prize is for Rs. 25,000 with the total prize amount coming to around Rs. 25,000 and a participation certificate.
EOTY 2023 is open to all participants who have completed their high school education and are aged between 18-25 years.
Participants must register before 15 March 2023.
