Carlton Williams, Sr. is the CEO of a Detroit-based company called Legendary Bosses. Legendary Bosses is the parent company to its subsidiary Legendary Music & Visuals (LMV), which encompasses a variety of channels for entertainment. LMV is actually the only local headphone brand in Detroit, Michigan. Carlton Williams wanted to ensure that LMV could provide consumers with headphones geared to emphasize the bass in music. As a huge fan of hip hop, Williams realizes that most popular rap songs include heavy bass which cannot be fully enjoyed via most standard headphones. The most challenging task for Williams is manufacturing the headphones due to the difficult nature of obtaining optimal technological equipment in the U.S. Williams encourages anyone interested in technological innovation to do their research because manufacturing technology is extremely expensive.

Williams explains that LMV essentially started back in 2003 as a somewhat of a youth organization. He and some of his friends were mentoring youngsters and coaching youth basketball as the Detroit Gators out of Tindal Rec Center. Williams’ sons were part of that youth mentoring program, and as they got older they began channeling their creativity by making music and designing clothing. The LMV brand was thus based around Williams’ youngest son’s t-shirt clothing line, but included the musical aspect of Williams’ oldest son. LMV does more than just function as a record label, but one aspect called Legendary Photography provides photographs for weddings and portraits lead by Williams’ middle son known as Easy-A.

Williams believes that artist development is a key component of music that is missing from the industry these days. LMV caters to artist development as it provides a home studio where artists can work on their crafts prior to focusing on an official project. Some artists that are a part of the LMV brand include William’s sons, artistically known as Kay.est and STF Chef, as well as Rich lee, Big Quizzy, TFG Teezy and Ysco Dame. Many of the aforementioned artists were originally mentees of Williams during the youth basketball era of Legendary Bosses.

Williams claims that he intends to continue expanding his headphone brand. He always had a passion for electronics, and when he was about 13-years-old he made his very first speaker system out of a cardboard box and a subwoofer from “Radio Shack.”  Moving forward, Williams plans for LMV to enter the earbud market. He understands that providing earbuds to the public which meet his sound expectations will be challenging, but he aims to do so within the next year.
