Serena Williams has always been an icon in her field, as an ace athlete she has always gained the respect of her peers and the fans. Along with that she is certainly a huge inspiration for the Black community all over the world, but with her latest move she is also doing some good philanthropic work.
The month of October is dedicated as the National Breast Cancer Awareness month in America, and Williams seems to be wanting to do her part considering her fan base in raising awareness of this sickness.
In an Instagram post yesterday, Serena William was seen in a bold video of her topless and singing a cover to “I Touch Myself”, one of The Diviynls’ classic hit.

What Is The Video All About?
The 37 year old tennis star, is seen covering her bare chest with her hands while singing the cover with the ultimate goal of the video being to remind women to get self-checks for breast cancer and any symptoms related to it.
Williams has produced this music video herself and in her Instagram post, wrote how, this was extremely difficult to do since it put her out of her comfort zone.
She said that,
“Yes, this put me out of my comfort zone, but I wanted to do it because it’s an issue that affects all women of all colours, all around the world. Early detection is key – it saves so many lives. I just hope this helps to remind women of that.
“The music video is part of the I Touch Myself Project which was created in honour of celebrated diva, Chrissy Amphlett, who passed away from breast cancer, and who gave us her hit song to remind women to put their health first.”
The video is supported by the Breast Cancer Network Australia who are collaborating with Williams for the I Touch Myself Project.
The project is in the memory of the 1980 Australian rock band Divinyls, who’s lead vocalist Chrissy Amphlett tragically passed away at the age of 53 in 2013 from breast cancer.
Serena Williams is trying to once again emphasis the powerful message of women putting their health first and taking the correct measures to ensure they are not suffering from this diseases that is rapidly becoming common among women.

Breast Cancer
Although this is not the first time Williams is appearing in a music video where she has previously made an appearance in Beyonce’s song Sorry for her album called Lemonade, the message behind this whole project is certainly strong.
Currently, breast cancer is the leading type of cancer among women across the world, accounting for almost 25% of cases when it comes to cancer.
Interestingly the disease is said to be more common in developed countries and as of 2015 almost 2.1 million people (mostly women) have been affected by it.
However, awareness and self-check are extremely important since early diagnosis can certainly help in the survival chances being much higher.
