Aarogya Setu App was launched by the Indian Government for disseminating essential information about novel coronavirus as well as to assess whether we are at risk of catching the infection or not. As a socially proactive citizen of India, I decided to download the mobile app to collaborate with the government in making a healthy and secure India.
It’s amazing to see how this app is available in 12 languages. Moreover, it is a great approach to make Aarogya Setu App more accessible and appealing to the masses.
According to government, this app is really very safe to use. The data provided by you is kept confidential and hence your privacy is not compromised at all. You need to agree to various terms and conditions of the app to maximize the purpose and utility of the app.
On the contrary, many experts claim that Aarogya Setu App is mainly a surveillance app and poses many privacy issues. The app collects too much information on registration and none of this data is required for contact tracing.
Amitabh Kant, CEO, Niti Aayog addressed this issue in an interview televised on Aaj Tak and shared on the official Twitter handle of Niti Aayog that the app’s data will not be used by the Indian government for any purposes other than tracking COVID-19 or medical purposes.
