COVID-19 affected all spheres of life, be it education, social life, or work life. When the lockdown was announced, consumer demand was severely affected. As a result, many small businesses bore the brunt of it and were either shut down or laid off employees.
In April 2021, 7.35 million Indians lost their jobs as reported by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE). Fresh graduates were facing more difficulties as compared to experienced professionals.
But now that the COVID cases have gone down and the economy is recovering, new job positions are opening in companies, especially tech companies. Amazon is one such company which is going to mass recruit people to fill over 8,000 vacancies in its first-ever career day in India.
Amazon To Organize First-Ever Career Day In India
Amazon, the biggest e-retailer in the world, is organizing its career day at 10:00 AM on 16th September 2021. The event will bring together company’s leadership and employees. People would get to know about the company, and what makes it an exciting workplace.
Experienced recruiters will conduct free, one-on-one coaching sessions with job seekers, guiding them as to how to approach the job search process, improve resume-building skills, etc.
“This interactive experience is for all job seekers, regardless of your level of experience, professional field, or background – whether you are interested in working at Amazon or elsewhere,”
read the company’s statement about the career day.
The Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced that over 55,000 positions for corporate and technology roles are open globally. That’s more than one-third of people at Google and almost all of Facebook. The company needs more manpower to deal with an increase in retail demand and advertising.

The majority of the openings are in the USA. In India, 8,000 positions would be filled in corporate, technology, customer service, and operations roles across 35 cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Pune, Noida, Jaipur, etc.
“This Career Day, we look forward to sharing our long-term commitment to tapping into India’s potential in the 21st century, and career opportunities to empower and enable this legacy,” said Amit Agarwal, Global Senior Vice President and Country Head, Amazon India.
TCS To Start Biggest Recruitment Drive For Women
Tata Consultancy Services has announced its biggest recruitment drive Rebegin for women professionals who have at least 2 years of IT experience. “Talent and Potential will always remain, and Rebegin is an opportunity for talented experienced women professionals to inspire, reinvent and challenge themselves to make a mark,” said the company.
TCS hired over 20,000 people in June. As per the company, the hiring momentum will remain the same in the FY2022 also.
In fact, most tech companies are on a hiring spree. Last year, startups like Zomato, Swiggy, and Ola did massive lay-offs. Now, they are recruiting people and offering them good salaries to fill the demand-supply gap.
The supply of good talent is far less than the demand, especially in the field of tech. This is a golden time for people to get the job of their choice if they have the required skills.
