I have always been a critic of the Indian education system. So when I came across a stand-up comedy on CBSE board, I clicked the link in the blink of an eye.
It was half way through the hilarious comments that I made a breakthrough of parallelism between Indian education system and Indian TV serials!
The declining quality of Indian television and education is a tragic comedy in itself. And the way their worlds coincide made me raise my eyebrows.
1.Same script since ages!
CBSE has not moved on from its curriculum since Ekta Kapoor’s reign on Indian television. Even when it does try to change its content, the move is usually politically driven. They might as well teach how to handle your Saas in value education classes!
2. Start with a boring song.
We all remember the irritating morning assembly choir songs we started our days with while Tulsi did with….. “Rishton Ke Bhi Roop Badalte Hai…”
3. It’s all about numbers
Be it TRP’s of an Indian TV show or percentage in our reports. Numbers is all that matters. Who gives a damn about content when you have these figures to show off?
4. A dreaded creature.
The evil teacher who used to make sure none of us passed her class test was no less than the colourful vamp of TV shows. The extra make up and jewellery being her signature traits!
5. Both come right back at you!
Interminable tests, just when our unit tests came to a halt, yearly exams would be geared up to embrace us with their warmth. These remind me of the perfect recurring loop created by shows for every time someone is shocked.
6. Powers of Extreme Tolerance
Analogous to the bahus of every family who are equipped with the paramount power of tolerance, exasperating CBSE teaching methods infuse similar power in students!
7. Both feed you with utter bullshit!
At the end of the day, both manage to accomplish their goal of being vile, vain, vacuous and brainless. Riddled with clichés, they contrived to curb our creativity.
Look to your left and look to your right we are all products of this same education system and so we all know the shortcomings. Major changes are needed to make this one big goofup correct but until then, its Ekta Kapoor-like people running the show!
