Breakfast Babble is ED’s own little space on the interwebs where we gather to discuss ideas and get pumped up (or not) for the day. We judge things too. Sometimes. Always. Whatever, call it catharsis and join in people. outsider in Delhi
Welcome back to our weekly babble session mornings. It’s one of those days when I am wondering whether it’s better to be an outsider in Delhi than being a Delhiite!
Why you ask? Well, for starters: home curfew timings. Just yesterday I reached home at 10 p.m. only to be scolded by parents for being late. Most of my friends who stay in a P.G. or shared flats don’t have such restrictions.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not one of those people who take the comfort of a home for granted. And I very well realise how many difficulties people living without a family in Delhi face.
But then again that’s what makes such people much more capable than us Delhiites (the young adults living with families in the city i.e.).
An outsider in Delhi, someone who is here for a job, internship or studies sees much more of practical life in comparison to people of the same age who have their own homes here.

That makes them much more capable of handling any situation that comes their way. For instance, whenever I am in any difficulty I instantaneously call up my parents instead of trying to handle the situation.
While an outsider in Delhi doesn’t have that luxury. They try to handle all situations on their own and rely on friends only when it is way out of hand.
That’s a skill all people of my age must possess but do not just because of the sheer luxury of living in Delhi with family.
Moreover, I am in my 20s and I have seen much less of the city than an outsider in Delhi. Nightlife in the city is way out of bounds for me. And I do not have useful (read: mandatory) skills like cooking, cleaning or doing laundry.
All this because hey, I am a Delhiite! I resort to the comfort of my home after a tiring day and my parents take care of everything for me.
First world problem? YEAH. Ironical? HELL, YEAH.
That’s it for my early morning crisis session. Tune in next week to find out what other bloggers at ED want to let out. Signing off!
