So you thought islands existed only inside the oceans? What if I told you there are ‘sky islands’ as well?
The Western Ghats in the west coast of India are home to these amazing sky islands which have fascinated evolutionary biologists for ages. They have been cradles of evolution since 150 million years and are one of India’s biodiversity hotspots.
These islands are especially known for hosting various exclusive, and yet unexplored species of birds and being every ornithologist’s paradise.
Unfortunately, these evolution labs are falling prey to urbanization and immediate measures need to be taken to prevent any further loss.
