In a surprising twist that has left both fans and critics buzzing, Bill Gates, the billionaire philanthropist and co-founder of Microsoft, is reportedly set to make a cameo in the much-anticipated sequel of the iconic Indian television series Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2.
The news has sparked excitement across the entertainment industry, with many wondering how the world’s most famous tech mogul will fit into the world of saas-bahu drama, a genre traditionally known for its melodrama and family-centric storylines.
While the details remain under wraps and further unconfirmed by any official source, the development has already captured the attention of viewers who never expected to see Gates, known for his philanthropic work, on an Indian soap opera.
Apparently, as per reports, the cameo is set to take place in the first three episodes of the rebooted series, led by Smriti Irani, who famously played Tulsi Virani in the original Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.
Is This True?
The news of Bill Gates doing a cameo in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 has been reported by several media outlets now. According to reports, Gates will make a brief appearance on the show to highlight an important social cause.
The billionaire, through a video call scene, will be featured alongside Smriti Irani, who is also one of the key figures advocating for women’s health and empowerment, a cause close to both their hearts.
More than just a publicity stunt, the cameo also sheds light on the ongoing trend of celebrities, businessmen, and even politicians venturing into the world of entertainment to further their own causes.
The news seems to come from a source that, according to an ETimes report, said “The track will culminate in a video call between businessman and philanthropist Bill Gates and Smriti Irani [who plays Tulsi Virani] and will span around three episodes.”
They further added, “The storyline focuses on creating and improving awareness about the health of pregnant women and newborns. Since the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation actively works on these causes, the collaboration came about naturally. Smriti wanted to use the show as a platform to promote health and social awareness through storytelling.”

This is apparently not the first time that the second season of the show has taken up social issues in its episodes. Previously the addressing issues like domestic violence allegations, ageing, and body shaming.
Smriti Irani, speaking with Mumbai Mirror, said, “We took up the issue of ageing and body shaming because these are fundamental challenges women deal with every day.
For me, as someone who has been part of the creative industry, it was important to highlight them. When we did Kyunki, we did not only address issues of body shaming and ageing, but also dealt with challenges that men face.
For instance, if a false case is filed, can women stand up for such men? That is not something you would normally expect in a television show or film, as people often say we are not progressive enough. The fact that such progressive elements are now accepted not only on TV but also on OTT platforms speaks volumes. We have truly entered an era of fearlessness.”
It should be noted, though, that so far, no official confirmation or statement has been given by either Ekta Kapoor, Balaji Telefilms or Bill Gates and his representatives, about this cameo.
While Bill Gates has made appearances in American shows like Frasier and The Big Bang Theory, he has never made an official cameo in an Indian project
Even his appearance in the 2017 movie Half Girlfriend had a digitally recreated version of him appear in a scene where he comes to the village school for a project. He did not act in the film, and the visuals drew further criticism and trolling from the audience.
