Most of the eminent spiritual gurus have always said that all religions are paths that lead to the same God, and all men are equal in the eye of the Almighty. However, Yoga Guru Ramdev begs to differ.
This is a time when the entirety of India is gripped with the political struggle over which religion is superior. When an influential entity in this very field chooses to put one religious group over the other, hell is bound to break loose. That is exactly what has resulted in an FIR against the aforementioned person.
Where Did This Incident Happen?
In Rajasthan’s Barmer district, a sant samagam or meeting amongst so-called soothsayers was taking place. This is where Ramdev made comments laced with outrageous religious indications that hurt the sentiments of the people around him.
The FIR was lodged in the Chohtan Police Station of the Barmer district where a local resident lodged the complaint over Ramdev’s comments. She is a Bihar-based rights activist who took the case to the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Muzaffarpur.

What Did He Actually Say?
The Hindu-Muslim divide is not an uncommon aspect to India’s social culture. Many times, these two religious groups have found each other at loggerheads, which has resulted in nothing but nasty encounters. It takes very little effort to re-establish a state of conflict between these two groups.
Yoga Guru Ramdev has gone ahead and made Islamophobic comments, accusing Muslims of resorting to terror and violence. He accused Muslim and Christian communities on the grounds that they’re “obsessed with conversion”.
He has also remarked that “Our Muslim brothers commit a lot of sins, but I have seen that they will definitely pray. Because that’s what they have been taught, just pray, do whatever else you want to do. They became terrorists, and a lot of them became criminals.”
Under Which Sections Has He Been Booked?
- Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 153A: (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony)
- IPC Section 295A: (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs)
- IPC Section 298: (Uttering words etc. with deliberate intent to wound religious feelings)
This is, in fact, not the first time a religious Guru has made problematic statements in a gathering that has offended the common man’s sentiments and it’s definitely not a first for the afore-mentioned person either. Words have their own way of adding oil to the fire that was never put out in the first place. What will happen of these statements?
