Customization is the name of Ruben Barraza’s game. He has been working in the customization world for nearly four years now. He began his project of customization out of his apartment and grew the business from there. His ascent has been quick as people are excited about the type of work that he has been doing to customize shoes, clothing, and other things.
“My name is Ruben Barraza and I go by Majorwavezz on Instagram. I have been customizing shoes for about 3 1/2 to 4 years and have grown my Business from a one person in an apartment to a staff of nine and opening a sneaker customization Workshop in Los Angeles California Powered by Nesquik,” Ruben explains.
His story begins not as an expert in customization, but as a college student working in a retail shop to make his way through life. It was there that he began to learn the ins and outs of customer service, retail service, and other aspects of the business. This helped him when he was beginning his very own customization service.
“My story begins in San Francisco where I attended college. Throughout college, I worked retail at different stores and I learned the ins and outs. I moved up in Retail from stock associate to store manager. About five years ago, I started painting my shoes and I noticed that customers were asking if we sold them. I started taking custom orders and started to realize that I was making more money with the customs than I was at my full-time salary job,” Ruben remarks.
Ruben combined his love for retail and so called “passion for fashion” to create his store. From there, he has never looked back. He had numerous people who believed in him from the very start, so he was able to accelerate his career quickly.
“My motivation to start a business would definitely be all of my retail experience and the passion I have for fashion. Ever since I can remember, I always cared about my shoes and always tried to stay on trend. I believe that retail helped me with the main foundations on how to start a business which overall motivated me. I also believe that the people who helped me in the beginning with giving me projects and opportunities were a big part of it. I always felt as if they believed in me which motivated me and that’s why I have started classes to help the younger individuals that may need the extra help or just to be acknowledged as an artist.
I run a custom shoe online retail store and sell anything from graphic t-shirts to cut and sew items. I recently started a custom sneaker workshop where you can come in and customize any shoe you would like. We do anything from painting to sewing with industrial sewing machines and a network for people starting up in the custom shoe industry,” Ruben states.
Ruben has put everything into his shoe business and that has helped lead him to success. He has not slowed down since that start of his business and he continues to innovate and expand to new and amazing things including new projects coming this year.
“As of right now, it looks like I will be opening up a @Majorwavezlab in a Las Vegas casino which I am very excited about but everything is still getting sorted out. I would say that my biggest challenge for this will be to travel from Los Angeles to Las Vegas to host classes but this would be a dream of mine and would love to see what the future brings,” Ruben says.
