Miyazaki mangoes, deemed as the “world’s costliest mangoes” have been accidentally planted by Rani and Sankalp Parihar, a couple from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.
They have deployed about a dozen guards and dogs to protect their orchard which has two mango trees of this rare variety. These mangoes cost up to a whopping Rs 2.7 lakh per kilogram in the international market.
Planting The World’s Most Expensive Mangoes
When the couple was asked about how they got this rare fruit, Sankalp Parihar told the media that he had received the saplings from a man he met on a train going to Chennai.
“He offered these saplings to me and asked to take care of these plants like our babies. We planted it in the orchard without knowing what variety of mangoes it will produce”, Parihar explained.

The couple had no idea about this rare variety of mangoes till they found the fruits to be very different from others.
“As I did not know the name of this variety, I named the fruit after my mother Damini. Later, we researched about this variety and found the real name. But it is still Damini for me”, added Parihar.
Miyazaki Mangoes: The Eggs Of The Sun
Miyazaki mangoes are known to be one of the most expensive fruits in the world which were first cultivated around the Japanese city of Miyazaki in 1984.
The cultivation of this rare variety of mangoes requires abundant rain, warm weather and long hours of sunshine.
It is cultivated in the period of April to August and sold in May and June.
The mangoes are flaming red in colour and egg-like appearance, which is why they are termed as “Eggs of Sun.”
These unique fruits weigh around 350 grams on average and contain 15 percent more sugar content than other mango varieties.
Benefits Of Miyazaki Mangoes
These mangoes are graded as the best quality mangoes across the world.
According to reports, the mangoes are rich in antioxidants and contain beta-carotene and folic acid, which help to improve vision.
It is also claimed that consuming this variety helps in reducing the risk of cancer and cholesterol levels.
Thus, because of the unusual colour, uniqueness and health benefits, this variety of red mangoes cost you about Rs 3 lakh per kilogram!
