The superstar, real-life Iron Man (AKA Elon Musk) gave us a quick peek at the new Tesla 3 over the weekend. Elon Musk tweeted a few pictures showcasing the highly anticipated Tesla Model 3.
Hailed as the battery-power car for the “common man”, the Tesla 3 could very well be a game-changer. As long as the production promises are kept, that is.
The lucky few – the first 30 people of the “reserve list”, are set to receive their Model 3 sometime later this month. There are reportedly 370,000 pending reservations for the Model 3. Who’s getting it first though?
It’s who is first to pay full price for the car. Hard rule. I have first Roadster and X, but not first S. – Elon Musk (@elonmusk)
The jury is still out on whether Tesla is able to keep up with the proposed production plans or not. Tesla has had a host of problems in keeping up with the massive demand in the past. Hopefully this time the story will play out differently.
While the official specs for the $35,000 “rest of us” Model 3 are yet to be revealed, they are likely to be:
- Rear-wheel drive sporting an all-glass roof
- 50 kWh battery with 215 mile range
- NCA 2170 battery cells, produced at the exquisite Gigafactory
- “Frunk” (front storage), similar to Model S and X
- 0-60 in 6 seconds (vroooooooooom!)
- Full self-driving hardware with 8 cameras and a radar
- Steel body (as opposed to lighter aluminum)
- Manual door handles (as opposed to automatic)
The Model 3 is not a Model S replacement. It is not supposed to be. Tesla Model 3 has its own strengths – it’s cheaper, simpler, and smaller. Also, less flashy.

It will be interesting to see how the “electric revolution” plays out in India. With the government’s recent push for cleaner and sustainable technology, would the Indian market be more attractive for the automobile giant?
Now here’s the good (or bad) news folks – If you haven’t already pre-reserved Model 3 – you are likely not getting it till next year. But that means there is plenty of time for Tesla to fix out all the kinks – and you can get started on saving $$$.
Make no mistake, the car is worthy just for its sex appeal.
