Philanthropy in India (or Indian Philanthropists) is not a new concept. The idea of giving back is deeply inculcated in the cultural and traditional values of our land. All of this can be traced back to the 1900s with the “Swadeshi” Movement being called on for independence.

Philanthropy in India is usually funded by family wealth. They give usually in one of two ways: as “family name” or as individuals. Here are five of the most eminent philanthropists of our time:
