ED VoxPop is where we ask people different survey questions and get responses to conduct sort of a poll of our own.

More often than not, we come across the question – can money buy you happiness? For some people, the answer might be a simple yes or no, but for others, this question demands a detailed analysis of various factors.

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question because let us be real, every individual has a different set of expectations and priorities in life. It also boils down to one’s current financial status as well as one’s obligations.

A majority of people who are not financially stable do believe that money is of utmost priority. For them, money seems to be the only solution to the majority of their problems. However, it may be the other way around for people who have decent incomes.

While happiness is not tangible and therefore cannot be bought at stores, various other tangible items can be bought from our hard-earned money and might eventually lead to happiness, even if it is for a short duration.

There are tons of arguments both for and against the assertion that money can’t buy happiness. People who are in favour of money’s capacity to buy happiness preach to others to not to assign values to material things. They believe in minimalism and building relationships for happiness and peace of mind.

People who do not already enjoy a quality lifestyle would definitely crave for material things that could make their lives more comfortable and ‘happening’.

Another factor that comes into the picture while talking about the relationship between money and happiness is the extent to which these two terms are correlated. For a reasonable amount of time or up to a sensible limit, money might give you everything that you ever desired.

But in the wake of fulfilling our material desires, we might miss out on our relationships and connections and in the worst possible scenario, we might miss out on ourselves as well. Happiness is directly linked to self-satisfaction and peace of mind and if that is missing, we might end up being gloomy with heavy pockets.

What Do Millennials Believe?

As already mentioned, there is no binary answer to the question under consideration. There are people on both sides of the boundary. Some fully abide by the statement while others completely disagree.

Here are the opinions of millennials on the relationship between money and happiness.

So, clearly, we have people on both sides of the pole. Individual preferences and priorities play a major role when it comes to financial matters.
