Breakfast Babble is ED’s own little space on the interwebs where we gather to discuss ideas and get pumped up (or not) for the day. We judge things too. Sometimes. Always. Whatever, call it catharsis and join in people.

Does this happen to you often where you feel extremely confused, stuck, have no idea what to do next, or have thoughts going in all directions? Well, writing might prove to be very helpful in this case.

No, try it once, just once. And then tell me that you’ve got addicted to it.

I learned this activity when I was appearing for my exams. We’d gone to the ‘American Library’ in Kolkata for a workshop. The instructor there told us to write whatever was going on in our minds and gave us two minutes for that. I had never scribbled so vigorously even during the last 2 minutes of my exams, as I did that day. The time was up but I still had so much to write.

The idea of maintaining a journal was always boring to me until then. I realised that when you get stuck and start writing whatever comes to your mind, all the answers appear on the page lying in front of you. You just need to arrange it in order. And there you go, your scattered brain is at peace now.

You don’t need to find the solution to your problems when you do this exercise, but I am sure you will find calmness.

You know, those times when you don’t have anyone to share your feelings, or even if you do, you don’t trust them enough, writing feels like magic.

I feel it is the best therapy. It has turned into a habit for me that now I cannot learn stuff until I write it down. I think that is the best way of learning.

Once you read the text, then you write it down while you say it out loud. Although time-consuming and your fingers might turn into some grotesque shapes, at least you will retain the information for better.

There is also a debate nowadays that typing is the same as writing. I am totally and will always be, against it. The essence of writing on paper will never be the same as typing. What is your take on this? Let us know in the comments below.
