Startup Fortune, December 4, 2020: Bharat Rana, CEO of Dental Health Associates, P.A., one of the region’s largest multi-specialty dental groups, is earning a name for himself as a leading CEO and entrepreneur in the dental industry.

Managing the overall operations and resources of the company, he focuses his team’s efforts on providing the best clinical care to patients regardless of where they come from, Bharat Rana stated that they, “treat the patient, not the insurance.”

“Too many dental practices are strictly concerned with their revenue, which is why patients end up just being numbers in the system,” said Mr. Rana. “Not at Dental Health Associates, we care about each and every patient, no matter their insurance”.

To fully understand why Mr. Rana employs a compassionate, patient-centric approach to running his business, we take a closer look at his background.

Bharat was born in India and immigrated to the United States in 1982 with his parents. Growing up in a middle-class family, Bharat watched his parents work hard to provide good lives for him and his siblings. His upbringing shaped his character and has always played a role in his business decisions.  He graduated from William Paterson University and then began working in the finance industry where he was able to gain valuable experience in various business disciplines including building organizational culture. His business ethics, acumen and hard work pays off.

In 2011, Bharat had a shift in his career as he partnered with a good friend, Dr. Amish Patel, who is a leading dentist in his field.  Bharat acquired his first dental practice in West New York, NJ.  “I had no dental experience, so it was an uphill battle, to say the least. But with a lot of hard work, we were able to turn the office into something profitable with a focus on high quality patient care.”

Bharat continued to refine his acquisition playbook as he acquired more practices over the next 5 years. In 2016, Bharat embarked on his biggest investment of all to acquire a multi-specialty dental group with over 350 employees. With this new acquisition, his organization was able to care for nearly 1,000-patients per day, many of them in underserved communities throughout New Jersey.

“Recently, COVID-19 hit the dental industry hard, including most of our practices, which experienced closures for several weeks.  Thankfully, we navigated through these challenging times and emerged stronger than ever. Today, we have grown to 37 locations with over 500 employees, and we are poised to double our size. We look forward to what 2021 has in store for our team.”

“My goal has always been to lead a large successful company that makes a significant positive impact, and I will continue to work towards that goal”.
