It is always nice to hear when some good hearted people do something for the stray animals.
Everyone wants to give the best to their own pets, however, going out of the way to take care of stray animals is something else.
One such woman is Merlyn from Bangalore who has been feeding stray eagles and hawks in Bangalore for the past 20 years or so.
The 55-year-old lady goes out on her street in the BTM layout every day after sunset in order to feed the eagles and hawks that take perch there.
Merlyn gets the food for these birds like chicken head and feet from local chicken stalls who give her the disposable parts.
The woman after collecting them, boils the parts in her own kitchen in order to get rid of any bacteria or infection and also soften them.
She usually comes to a certain spot in the area and puts the food down, before backing away.
The eagles and hawks fly down and eat whatever is there.
Merlyn also feeds nearby stray dogs with bread and biscuits along with remaining pieces of meat.
As per a report by News18, a resident called Kishore has said “She has been doing this for over 20 years and we have been watching how patiently she does all of it. The least we can do to help is by lending a little space for an hour.”

Not The Only One
Bangalore has many good samaritans willing to go out of their way to ensure that stray animals and birds of the city don’t go hungry.
Last year when the nationwide lockdown was first put in place, many animal volunteers and authorities from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) came together to feed animals and birds that had been locked in the closed pet shops.
With the lockdown, all shops were closed down and pet shops especially did not come under the ‘essential’ category at the time.
In this case, the animals who had been placed in pet shops to be sold were without anywhere to go and with the shops closed had no one to look after them either.
People and some veterinarians also stated that if these animals were left unattended and if they died without it being noticed, then it could be quite harmful, even resulting in another epidemic.
So the BBMP and animal lovers came together to ensure that these animals don’t go hungry and routinely have someone check in on them.
Another story also talked about how an elderly man has been feeding the pigeons, stray dogs and more at the Ramanjaneya temple at Basavangudi, Bengaluru for the past 15 years.
