Do You Know The Real Reason Behind ‘No Shave November’?

2065

We’ve reached the time of year when men let their beards and mustaches grow wild from their faces. When hashtags of No Shave November trend and social networks are full of  hair growth memes.

No Shave November

As excited the Indian youth gets for No Shave November as unaware they are. The meaning and intent of No Shave November is much more than you growing your facial or body hair!

The goal of No Shave November is to grow awareness by embracing your hair which many cancer patients lose, and letting it grow wild and free. And to donate the money you typically spend on shaving and grooming to educate about cancer prevention, save lives, and aid those fighting the battle.

No, No Shave November wasn’t started by a hippie guy who just wanted people to grow his beard and flaunt. It started with a cause and intent which almost half the people or even more in India don’t even know.

So, yeah nobody cares if you have been growing your beard since the 1st of this month and you post pictures of it on your social networks to look cool and just join the bandwagon! Until you don’t contribute to the cause monetarily or help generate awareness it isn’t of any use.

No Shave November memes that do rounds on internet.
No Shave November is a lot more than the memes you share on internet!

“No Shave November” or as it is more popularly called “Movember” (moustache + November), is actually followed to raise awareness of men’s health issues. For instance: prostate cancer, depression etc. The idea is to “change the face of men’s health”.

It all started with a group of Australians who came together to grow moustache in the month of November (in 1999) to raise awareness for a charity. Original story:

This slowly became a phenomenon and finally an official charity foundation was formed called “Movember Foundation” that worked towards this awareness and started raising money. The money is then donated to the partner foundations (like Prostate Cancer Foundation) that are actually working towards helping patients.

There are proper rules laid down for someone who wants to be a part of the campaign which are really simple. “Put down your razor for 30 days and donate your monthly hair-maintenance expenses to the cause.”

But you HAVE TO donate or SPREAD AWARENESS regarding the cause. Without this your pictures on social networks with hashtag #NoShaveNovember are of no use!

(You can get yourself registered for the cause here: No-Shave November!)

Hope this helped and made you a little more aware. What do you think?
