The legislature of India is all set to move to a new Parliament building during a special Parliament session, the first occurrence since India gained independence. Before the change on Monday a discussion with the topic “Parliamentary Journey of 75 years starting from Samvidhan Sabha — Achievements, Experiences, Memories and Learnings” was held where members of both the Houses participated.
Speaker of the Lower House Om Birla pointed out how a “constructive discussion” happened in the historic chambers on the last day of the proceedings.
He stated how “The prime minister and leaders of all parties shared their views and experiences on the democratic journey of the country and on historic decisions and incidents. The time has come that the proceedings of the Lok Sabha are conducted in the new Parliament building.”
He further said “This is a historic and unforgettable moment for all of us. We are going to enter the new complex and the memories of this building will always stay with us.”

This great Hall embraced us all, both treasury and opposition. And helped us find our own little corners in its cocoon. The building may change but its symbolism – a free space for freely elected representatives of a free country – is what is incumbent upon us all to preserve intact.”
