Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], December 27: Philanthropy means different things to different people and organizations. Some focus entirely on animal welfare, some on poverty alleviation, others on woman empowerment, and others on diverse initiatives. Kamala Ankibai Ghamandiram Gowani Trust is an organization that strives to touch various facets of life. It works to help the underprivileged through the struggles of life. The trust has been in the spotlight for quite some time now. The reason for this attention is their offbeat initiatives that other philanthropists and organizations ignore. The organisation has done everything from promoting equal treatment for transgenders to promoting superior health for everyone. Solidarity walks for cancer patients, fashion shows, ramp walks and everything else to make the underprivileged happy are some initiatives that have attracted attention and applause.
Healthcare is one of the trust’s primary areas of focus, and its past healthcare initiatives include health check-up camps, cancer awareness drives, and other efforts. Recently, on the 25th of December, the trust organized health awareness camps in the slums of Maharashtra. This included Dharavi Slum, Police camp, Mayanagri slum, Madraswadi slum, Siddharth nagar slum and other areas.
These camps focused on Covid awareness, where kids and adults were counselled about masks, sanitisers and hygiene. Kamala trust also organized sanitization and cleanliness of these slums. Apart from coronavirus awareness, the camp also focused on breast cancer diagnosis and counselling and HPV vaccination. Seniors were also checked for their sugar levels and BP. This was an offbeat camp that helped the poor access healthcare for free. This was done so that economic status doesn’t come in the way of good health. The news of the new Covid variant has sent many into a state of panic; thus, the trust realized the need to make them aware of all precautions.
The camps were a great success and contributed immensely to the healthcare awareness of people in these areas. Those screened for breast cancer were also counselled on what to do once they spot a lump in their breast. Such organizations are hard to come by, and such initiatives deserve appreciation. The Kamala Gowani trust team has been doing wonders under Ms Nidarshana Gowani and hopes to make many such efforts in the future.
We thank them for their commendable efforts and hope to see more such work in the future.
