Actress and environmentalist Juhi Chawla on Monday approached the Delhi High Court against the setting up of 5G wireless networks in the country, raising issues related to the radiation impact on citizens, animals, flora, and fauna. Justice C Hari Shankar who was hearing the matter had transferred the suit to another bench for hearing on June 2 (Today).
What Happened In The Hearing?
Juhi Chawla stated that if the telecommunications industry’s plan of 5G implementation comes to fruition no one on Earth will be able to avoid the exposure levels of RF radiation that are 10 to 100 times greater than what exists today.
“These 5G plans threaten to provoke serious, irreversible effects on humans and permanent damage to all of the Earth’s ecosystems,” she said.
Her lawyer has argued that the government had ordered studies in 2015 and 2018, and authorities should wait for the results of these studies before 5G is implemented in the country. He added that the World Health Organisation (WHO) studies on the issue can’t be trusted “because it admits that it has been funded by telecom companies.”
How Could People Access The Hearing?
It was a virtual hearing. The actor herself invited people to attend the meet, by sharing the link in her tweet. However, the interruptions began right from the beginning of the hearing when some fan kept asking “Where is Juhi ma’am? I can’t see Juhi ma’am.”
Then some other man sang Ghoonghat Ki Aad Se from Juhi’s 1993 film, ’Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke’. He left the hearing and rejoined later, and this time, he started singing ‘Lal Lal Honthon Pe’ from Juhi’s 1995 film, Naajayaz.
He left the virtual hearing and rejoined a third time to sing ‘Meri Banno Ki Aayegi Baraat’ from the actress’s 1993 release, Aaina.

What Happened After The Interruption?
The hearing had to be stopped because of the bizarre disruption. It resumed after the man was removed from the virtual session.
Juhi had posted about the virtual hearing on social media.
She wrote on Twitter, “Hum…tum aur 5G! If you do think this concerns you in any way, feel free to join our first virtual hearing conducted at Delhi High Court, to be held on 2nd June, 10.45 AM onwards Link in my bio (sic).”
“Please identify and issue contempt notice. Contact Delhi Police IT Department. We will issue notice,” said Justice Midha.
The Delhi High Court has taken the matter very seriously and issued a contempt notice. The court also directed the Police to search for the person and take legal action against him.
