Breakfast Babble: ED’s own little space on the interwebs where we gather to discuss ideas and get pumped up for the day. We judge things too. Sometimes. Always. Whatever, call it catharsis and join in people.
I don’t get why most people have this notion that life with a single parent is filled with disturbances and fights. It is true that living with one parent is not always smooth, especially due to financial insecurity, but it is really not that bad.
I’ll share my personal experiences in this article. It has been over 2 years now, my sister and I have been living with my mother, and it has not been as bad as I thought it would be.
A lot Of Emotions
Really, a lot of emotions. There are topics that are sensitive and are very rarely touched in the house. But over time, all of us have learnt to not snap at little things that remind us of things we don’t want to recall.
Since it has been a couple of years, emotions aren’t that easily tapped and we are relatively stable.
Freedom
This is probably the best part. I don’t mean having both your parents with you is bad, but boy do we get a lot of freedom with a single parent! They usually don’t have time to keep a check all the time since they are busy taking care of the financial situation of the house.
I’ve gone out for trips and interned at more places in the past 2 years, far beyond even the number of times I had gone to watch a movie before that.

Parents Understand You Better
I can vouch for it, and so do a lot of my friends. When you have a single parent, usually due to divorce issues, they start to look at things a little differently.
I have seen cases where parents become harsher and the child/children start drifting away, but for me, this has been a crucial betterment in life. My mother understands me and my sister much more than she ever did when my parents were together.
Even more than being understanding, they are empathetic. They are flexible to your opinions and surely try to communicate with you more.
I hope that tells you a little bit about how life is not all fights and tragedies with a single parent. It is fun and anyone who wants to talk about it is welcome to connect with me!
