Off late, the lipo laser/LED technology is generally being perceived to have significant future potential, given two core reasons. One is the ever-growing broad and deep penetration of obesity in our society and its untoward consequences that we are witnessing today. And the other is that the lipo laser/LED technology has moved from its infancy to a state of maturity that provides sufficient comfort of use to end-users, with its non-surgical and practically painless approach, coupled with outcomes of good quality and relatively much-lower cost.
For those who have chosen to open a lipo laser/LED based body sculpting / contouring business, it is a timely choice with a great potential of serving many people that need help, believes Edwin Brown, the CEO of Slender Lasers, one of the leading online retail companies of lipo laser and LED units in the USA, that also invests significantly into market research. Brown says, “If you do not have prior experience in getting a new lipo laser/Led machine for you, and more particularly, if you are on your way to run at a commercial scale treating multiple or even back-to-back patients in a given day, you need to make sure you cover a few aspects of the lipo unit you purchase and set up.”
In this regard, the research team released a report comprising list of key factors for helping such aspiring businesses and new buyers of these lipo laser/LED units, labeling the release to be “drawn from their learning of the domain since 2010”. The factors they have identified cover all the way from the diodes, to heat management and wavelengths.

Factor #1 – The Quality of Diodes: The best diodes, as per the report, are made in Japan and Germany. Mitsubishi, a Japanese company, is said to manufacture some of the best diodes. Another one endorsed is Dilas – which is based out of Germany. The report also notes thatmost of the diodes made in Taiwan and China do not appear to have as good a quality as the German and Japanese ones.
Factor #2 – Generation (Wavelength/Strength) of the Machine: The whitepaper notes that, the lipo laser/LED technology has moved from the first generation into the third generation, with the over technological space more leaning towards developing and delivering over LED these days than laser. The first-generation units tended to have around 670 nm of wavelength, the second generation around 650 nm and the modern third-generation units have around 635 nm. It observes that, the smaller the wavelength, the stronger the unit, because wavelength and power are inversely correlated. Brown and his team observe that in their experience, businesses usually want a stronger machine, and thus, unless a given business has a specific reason for making a different choice, the better choices for them turn out to be the units generating a smaller wavelength (635 nm).
Factor #3 – Heat Management System: With greater power comes greater heat. The stronger a machine the business chooses to install, aiming for faster sessions and handle more consumers within a shorter duration of time, the hotter the machine will tend to get, notes the Slender Lasers release. The report marks this factor as “Physics 101 – more energy consumption generates (releases) more heat energy. Hence you need to check the heat management system of the lipo laser/LED unit you are getting.” In the older days – mostly the first-generation machine days – the units would shut down in the middle of a session, and more so if it was put under a back-to-back session workload. The reason would be overheating, and poor cooling. The good 3rd generation machines (and 2nd generation ones also) have finally got rid of that problem in spite of generating more volumes of heat, with improved cooling techniques and technologies. With this background, the released report urges the potential business-user to make sure that the brand and model they install, has a robust heat management/cooling subsystem.
Factor #4 – Diode Density: Slender Lasers notes that the power of a lipo laser/LED unit is derived from two factors: (a) the individual power dissipated by each diode and (b) the total number of diodes that dissipate energy. Today, the diodes in the better machines have been made to pack really densely on the pads/paddles that they are fitted upon. With energy-efficient manufacturing of diodes, the better lipo laser/LED units today have 5-10 milliwatts per diode, instead of the older-day 20-40 (typically around 30) milliwatts per diode, which is still used by some manufacturers today. The packaging, though, is much denser and much more efficient as well as effective. Thus, some of the better machines with the same configuration of pads/paddles as others, will turn out to be even twice more efficient or even a bit more. Couple that with the fact that some of these diodes, in particular a lot of the German and Japanese ones, tend to have 10,000+ hour lifespan, and it is thus easy to identify which brand and model would deliver its work more effectively, more efficiently, and simply put – better – in the longer term, once this factor is put into consideration.
The report points out that some manufacturers tend to use “high fluence” as a marketing term to sell their units. “While it is great to have good fluence as far as the diode configuration and pad/paddle design are concerned, but that cannot replace diode density and the energy. Fluence is merely how much light the diodes in total produce and how much area that covers on the body part, without concerning with how much energy, penetration etc.”, says the report.
Factor #5 – The pad/paddle count, modularity and shapes to fit to the body: Finally, the report puts stress on pad/paddle structure and count of the lipo laser/LED units as the 5th highlighted factor.
It observes that, first, the number of paddles need to be sufficient. And these paddles/pads need to be designed to optimize for body parts. That will make the sessions with the end-consumers both faster as well as more effective. “What serves the hand (the structure and shape of the paddle) surely cannot serve the abdomen or the thigh equally well – that’s commonsense. And vice versa.”, quotes Edwin Brown in the report. Thus, the paddles/pads supplied, along with the shape, is noted to be of paramount importance.
Another set of questions are encouraged to be asked by the business while buying a lipo unit into by the report.Some are as quoted as follows. “Are there slots in the machine to plug and unplug paddles/pads? Or even, can the existing pads/paddles be opened up? If yes, that makes the sessions more effective for you and more comfortable for your consumer. Also, other questions, such as how many paddles/pads of what shapes are supplied, need to be asked. What the diode count on each pad/paddle is, needs to be known. And so on.”
While the report has other factors listed too, but it summarizes these 5 factors to be the key for getting started. They mark that this list is not exhaustive, and usually new buyers need to also add onto other factors for their specific conditions and cases, but these are necessary factors that cannot be ignored.
