People travel across countries and cities, leaving their homes behind, in search of jobs or to settle down or pursue higher education.
It’s often very difficult for most of them to adapt to the new surroundings and feel very homesick initially. A recent post by a man, sharing this journey touched people’s hearts. Here’s what he shared.
What Was The Post About?
Recently, a man took to Reddit, sharing his longing for homemade food, and the reason he eventually slept hungry. The man said that he slept hungry for the first time in his life not because of “circumstances” but due to “poor choices and bad luck.”
In his post, the man said that he was broke this month and was forced to order “cheap food” for Rs 80 from Swiggy. The food was so terrible that he threw it away and was left with an empty stomach. “I miss Ghar Ka Parathe,” he said.
“I have lived in different cities, but Delhi has not been kind. Fortunately, God gave me such loving parents. My mother practically lives to feed me,” he added.
The post exhibited the user’s desperation. He explained how his friends were well-settled and doing good in their lives while he had to work for 10 hours, plus two hours of commuting.
“Kabhi maa baap ne zindagi mai 1 ghanta bhi bhuka ni rakha. Yaha bhuke pet sona pad raha hai. Feeling so stuck in life. All friends earning well and having great jobs, and then there is me, working 10 hours, commuting 2 hours, and eating one meal,” he said.
“I don’t need advice, I just needed to vent. I wanted to shout out about my downfall,” said the concluding lines of the post.

Reactions Of The Netizen:
The post touched the hearts of all its readers, who felt extremely sympathetic towards him. It has amassed over 398 upvotes.
“Bata Kya Order Karu?” said one user. “I’ll send you food dude, if you want, khaali pet mat so! (don’t sleep empty stomach)” said another.
A third user said, “So new city mein low paid job karna aur rehna with no social and house keeping skills this is what it looks like. Bro atleast make bread anda. Sabse asaan aur healthy hai. (This is what it looks like to live in a new city, with a low paid job and no social and housekeeping skills. Make bread anda, it is the easiest and healthy)“
A fourth wrote: “Delhi is one of the cheapest cities out there. Go out and eat at a cheap cart/stall for 10-30 bucks. If you don’t have money, don’t order food online. Also, you can get proper tiffin/meal services in Delhi for 1000-3000 bucks. My friend is a doctor, and his monthly tiffin cost was 1500 Rs per month. Maggie cooked in a kettle is cheap too.“
Loneliness is a common issue for people who move away, whether it’s students going abroad or young adults starting careers in new cities. Leaving loved ones behind can be isolating, and the lack of social connection can lead to feelings of depression.
Social media plays a huge role during such a period, wherein people can vent out their feelings or find and talk to like-minded ones.
