School, college and then work. It seems that while school was the slowest moving phase, college is already over and now we are all busy with our work, meaning that our social life is practically zero.
While before it used to be that I’d be meeting my friends at least 3-4 times in a week, now almost months go by before we realise that we all have not met in a long time.
I am sure I am not the only one who feels this and so when the opportunity to have a spontaneous reunion with my friends arose, we quickly got on with it.
Have to say it was the most fun I’ve had in a long time, but I couldn’t help but observe that there were some things that happened that are somehow universal whenever an old group of friends meet. Here I what happens when you have a spontaneous reunion with your friends:
1. Browsing Through Old Photos
That was practically the first thing that happened. Nothing brings up old memories than looking at old photos and reminiscing the gone by days.
Be it on individual phones, Facebook or even album, looking at our younger version and remembering exactly when the image was clicked, what was happening before and what happened after was a great icebreaker.
2. The Tonic
If the old photos had not done their trick then the tonic that one of my friends brought along was just the right thing to get the evening going.
Not a name brand, but instead an upcoming one called Golfer’s Shot but actually this was the surprise hit that hit us all like a really cool revelation. I especially really enjoy Golfer’s Shot and plan to bring it along the next time I meet my friends.
Unlike any other whisky that we had the pleasure of having, the tonic made up with its fine attention to detail and flavours. The drink opens up well, has intense flavours with woody and smokey notes and is extremely smooth in texture.
And I do think that while it may not be popular like the established whisky brands yet, it absolutely has the characteristics to stand out due to its brilliance and quality product.
It was the perfect way to celebrate our history and journey till now. (look at me, getting all sappy)
3. The Food:
Though we are all earning now and can finally afford good food, but when it’s a reunion you just know that nothing the good old classics will do.
So Butter Chicken and Dal Makhani it was, with the only difference being the choice of naan or roti.
There are certain dishes that you automatically associate with your childhood and for us it was these 2. Not only because they were the cheapest at the time, but also because they could easily be divided among a big group. So no worries for individual dishes, because we roll like that.
4. Old Gossip Material
After drinking damn good whisky and great food, it obviously mellows up the atmosphere and that is when the old gossip material comes out.
Who was dating whom in school, who broke up, any scandal that one was not aware of and etc. Along with making fun of each other’s old Facebook statuses, lingo that was the thing back then.
And of course, talking about teachers, principals, impersonating them and quoting that one teacher’s memorable line which they would give to almost every student.
Ultimately, I would like to say that, this spontaneous reunion was more fun than any planned one could have been. Try it once and see if these points applied to you too or not.
