To continue the trend and help people achieve laurels for the state in the field of education, the government has taken up various initiatives to provide accessible education to all sectors of society.
In particular, the weaker sections of society and the minorities are provided with special privileges in the form of scholarships to promote education and to help them realize their dreams for a bright future.
Scholarships for Minorities
The UP state government is offering the following scholarships to aid the minority students:
- Pre-matric scholarships for minorities
- Post- matric scholarships for minorities (not applicable for intermediate level)
- Post matric intermediate scholarships for minorities.
The Department of Minorities offers all these scholarships. The duration of application, eligibility criteria, benefits of these scholarships together with the method to apply for them have been given below in detail. Candidates can refer the table below for complete information:

The rewards offered by UP scholarship are a financial grant or cash award that varies with the candidate’s class/ category and the academic portfolio he holds. The government does not specify a common financial award but customizes based on student’s credentials and personal details.
UP Scholarship Application process
The UP state government follows an easy online application process to help students ease the application method and get easy access to the required information. The entire application process has been set up in 6 simple stages, and each of them has been explained in detail below:
Step 1: Registration
Candidates can log into the official portal of the UP website offering scholarships -http://scholarship.up.nic.in/
Click on the new student registration tab.
Select the scheme that you want to apply amongst the list of three scholarships.
Fill up all the necessary details that are requested in the form.
Click on the submit button to complete the registration process.
Save the submitted form as PDF or take a print copy of the same. Save the copy for future use.
Step 2: Login
Once the registration process is complete, traverse to the ‘Student’ section.
Here click on ‘fresh login’ for applying as a fresh applicant.
In case the candidate is already availing of a scholarship and wants to renew the same, he can click on ‘renewal login’ to renew his/her scholarship.
Enter registration details, date of birth, password details.
Right after the entry of these details, candidates will be redirected to a page that contains full information about instructions that will guide them to finish the application process.
After reading all instructions carefully, click on the proceeds button.
Step 3: Application form filling
In the applicant’s dashboard section, click on ‘fill the application form.’
Fill in all sections of the details required on the application form.
Verify entered data and submit it.

Step 4: Uploading of documents
Candidates need to scan and upload documents in the appropriate format to achieve successful submission of application. Required documents are listed below:
- Identity proof of candidate (Voter Id Card/ Ration card/ driving license/ PAN card)
- Recent passport size photo of the candidate
- Caste certificate
- Income certificate
- Domicile certificate
- Bonafide certificate from an educational institution
- Mark sheets of the last exam passed
- Fee receipts obtained from the educational institution.
- First page of bank passbook.
Step 5: Application form submission
Candidates are required to check and verify every detail they have entered.
All data entered must be correct, valid, and supported by documentation.
Any data found misleading or incorrect shall lead to the cancellation of the application.
Step 6: Application copy submission at an educational institution
Candidates need to take a hard copy of the submitted application with all particulars.
Along with the form, they need to attach all documents in hard copies and submit the same at the respective educational institution without fail.
This entire process completes the application form submission.
Candidates who have sent their applications through the online portal shall be screened based n the details they have provided. A merit list shall be prepared based on their academic credit factors, category, and economic conditions, etc. Based on this list, candidates shall be verified, keeping their documents insight.
All legitimate applications shall be filtered, and the final list of shortlisted candidates shall be prepared.
Candidates who successfully receive scholarships are required to renew them every year until the completion of their course. The renewal process has to be carried out in the stipulated time only.

Benefits of UP minority scholarships
Apart from the lucrative financial award, UP minority scholarships possess a whole lot of other benefits for the better advantage of students. The same has been enlisted below:
UP minority scholarships are awarded to students belonging to the minority groups – Christians, Muslims, Sikhs, Parsis, Jains, and Buddhists.
This scholarship is applicable and available only for students who are domiciled in Uttar Pradesh.
The fee reimbursement system is fully transparent and ensures timely payment of scholarship awards to selected candidates. This highly effective system has been named ‘Saksham’ by the UP government.
UP government supports those students who are domiciled in UP but currently pursuing their studies at educational centers outside the state.
There is no upper limit on the number of candidates who can apply for scholarships.
