The second season of Shark Tank India is currently going on and while not as big as the first one, it has still been a source of some amusement and entertainment.

The show currently has 6 judges or sharks as they are called including Anupam Mittal (Founder-CEO of Shaadi.com), Aman Gupta (Co-Founder-CMO of boAt), Namita Thapar (Executive Director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals), Vineeta Singh (Co-Founder-CEO of SUGAR Cosmetics), Peyush Bansal (Founder-CEO of Lenskart.com) and Amit Jain (Co-Founder-CEO of CarDekho Group and InsuranceDekho.com).

In the latest episode of the show, one particular pitch that got a lot of amusement was one about night or romantic agarbattis or incense sticks.

Romantic Incense Sticks

Amit Hotchandani, the founder of Va Perfumes gave a pitch for his business on the show, and while overall it seemed the usual with them manufacturing incense sticks for religious and aromatic purposes, however, one product of theirs caught the attention that being their “night incense sticks”.

In his pitch, Hotchandani said that “Many people across the world experience the same boring night routine in their rooms. There’s nothing new – no excitement, spice, or fun. What do you do? How do you do it? The solution is the smell.

Smell is a sense that can instantly lift up a person’s mood. At Va Perfumes, we make a revolutionary product – night incense sticks which leave the room so fragrant, it automatically puts you in a romantic mood.”

Hotchandani as per a Business Insider report was a rice exporter but started in the incense sticks sector after his business closed because of export bans. The idea for these romantic incense sticks was introduced to him by his partners in Nigeria, West Africa, where such a product is quite known.

They shared the recipe for these sticks and that is how he launched Va Perfumes where they produce a number of night iincense sticks like romance, classic love, extreme fun, etc.

When Aman Gupta inquired about how these work, Hotchandani said “It’s (the night incense sticks) tested but how can one prove it? Once it’s lit in the room, the mood is set. (But) it should be burned inside a room, at least. It won’t be effective if you burn it in a stadium.”

Shark Anupam Mittal joked that “I’m very curious to know how you came up with this idea to develop incense sticks that can light a room on fire – not in the literal sense, but in terms of desire… so what happened? Did a tragedy strike or did you feel the need for it?”

But, while the product and its founder amused the sharks, none of them decided to invest due to various reasons.
