Indian politics has its own hero in Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His stardom in the country is unparalleled, and it is often reminiscent of the stardom of an A-list Bollywood celebrity.
Indian politics, however, has never been short of stars. From Amitabh Bachchan and his wife Jaya Bachchan to Hema Malini and her husband Dharmendra, we’ve seen them all campaigning for their respective political parties and even become MPs.
Charisma and popularity combined with political backing often provide a winning combination. While a lot of these stars achieved success in their political career, being a star doesn’t guarantee you success in politics.
Cricketers, too, have plied their trade in politics. We have seen cricketers like Mohammad Azharuddin and Navjot Singh Sidhu being successful on the political front.
With former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir joining BJP just less than a month away from elections, it won’t be a surprise to see him fighting for a Lok Sabha seat from Delhi.
After all, when the election season is on, the line between politicians and stars becomes blurry and almost everyone who wins a seat emerges as stars at the end of the day.
