The dream of various followers of Hindu faith and believers in the ideology of Lord Ram is going to be fulfilled, thanks to the decision given by the Supreme Court of India in 2019, in favour of the construction of the Ram Mandir.
The movement behind the making of the temple, known as the Ram Janmabhoomi Andolan, has played an instrumental role in influencing Hindu sentiments. While we know that Yogi Adityanath is actively participating in the construction of the temple, his connection to the movement has been of decades.
Let us have a look at his journey towards the construction of the Ram Temple.
Yogi’s Mandir Connection
Yogi has been a working participant in the movement invoked for the building of the Ram Mandir, however, his connection to it dates back to the time of Mahant Digvijay Nath of Gorakhpur’s Gorakhnath Math.
He was the pioneer of the Ram Janmabhoomi Andolan which received its first spark in the early years of independence. On 22nd December 1949, when two idols, one of Lord Ram and one of Goddess Sita were found placed inside the Babri Masjid, it was seen as a sign from God himself by various Hindu followers.
Despite the conflict, the idols weren’t removed and the disputed structure was locked. It is said that Mahant Digvijay Nath hatched the plan to place the idols, to bring together the scattered Hindu religious forces under one banner. He also propagated the ideas of a united Hindu front, however, he couldn’t see his dream getting fulfilled in his lifetime.

His successor, Mahant Avaidyanath then took matters into his own hands and played a key role in the movement. He founded the Sri Ramjanmabhoomi Mukti Yagna Samiti which further went on to demolish the disputed structure in Ayodhya. He was said to be the key architect of the plans of felling the structure and his role in mobilizing the crowd was evident by his regular rallies and religiously charged speeches.
However, despite his work, he couldn’t have the temple made in front of him and was succeeded by Yogi Adityanath, the present-day Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Yogi not only inherited the Math’s rights but also undertook the task to conclude the wishes of his deceased grand-guru.
Under his regime in the state, we are finally witnessing the construction of the temple.
It is pertinent to note here that Mahant Avaidyanath had expressed his wish to see the Ram Mandir in his life after the Allahabad High Court had pronounced its decision in 2010. But when the matter was dealt with by the apex court, it took years to resolve the dispute, meanwhile, Mahant Avaidyanath expired.
In his final days, whenever the topic of Ram Mandir was mentioned to him, he used to say that Chote Maharaj (Yogi Adityanath) would fulfil his dream and conclude the fight his guru had started for the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
He used to emphasize the possible role of Yogi in the construction of the temple and as fate had it, his prophecy came true, his disciple will witness the foundation stone of the Ram Mandir being lowered on 5th August.
