Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’, her sixth concert tour, paying tribute to all of her ten albums to date and currently, her most expansive one yet, boasts 151 shows across five continents, making it the highest-grossing tour of all time, surpassing an impressive $1 billion in revenue.

Regarded as one of the world’s most popular singer-songwriters and also having a massive fan base in India, yet when she announced the dates for her global Eras Tour, there were 6 concerts planned in Singapore and none in India.

What Is The Reason Behind This?

Known for her electrifying performances and heartfelt lyrics, Taylor is one of the most influential artists of her generation. Her announcement of the ‘Eras Tour’ created a surge of anticipation among her global fan base, known affectionately as Swifties.

However, the excitement among Swifties in the ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations) region has been dampened with the revelation of this exclusive deal with the Singapore government and the concert promoter.

The revelation was recently made by Thailand Prime Minister, Srettha Thavisin, who claimed that the concert promoter Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) told him that Taylor Swift could not perform anywhere in Southeast Asia during the tour.

Addressing a business event in Bangkok, the PM said that AEG informed him that the Singapore government had secured an exclusive deal with Taylor Swift, offering a substantial sum of $2 million to $3 million per show in exchange for the sole right to host the tour in Southeast Asia.

The development comes as the singer has six sold-out shows at Singapore’s National Stadium slated to take place in March 2024.

What Other Revelations Did the PM Make?

PM Thavisin expressed disappointment on behalf of Thai fans, highlighting that hosting the concert in Thailand would have been more cost-effective and could have attracted additional sponsors and tourists to the country.

The Singapore government is astute,” he remarked, acknowledging the strategic move made by Singapore to secure the high-profile tour.

He mentioned that AEG helped him understand why Taylor Swift had not previously performed in Thailand, stating that if he had known earlier, efforts would have been made to bring the Eras Tour to the country, owing to the immense popularity of the American singer-songwriter across Thailand and also the fact that Thai Swifties had been eagerly awaiting the chance to experience her musical magic live.

He also revealed that the government is actively working to attract more “A-list” artists to Thailand by the end of the year, acknowledging the challenges associated with organizing a concert of this magnitude.

Has Such An Incident Unfurled In The Past As Well?

Reports tell us that Taylor Swift had a sold-out concert at the Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani in Nonthaburi Province in 2014. However, the event was abruptly cancelled with no official explanation provided.

The wait for Indian fans to witness the global pop sensation in action is not over yet, and they are currently left with no option but to consider making the journey to Singapore to witness Taylor Swift’s iconic performances.
