Companies often fight over employees, rival companies wanting to poach off the talents of another and work for them thus benefitting them. Well, it seems like some of the largest companies in the world are currently engaged in a fight over two IITians, especially in the sector of artificial intelligence (AI).
The AI sector is growing rapidly and practically no company can ignore it, more than anything those in the tech sphere. The use of AI getting bigger and bigger and tech companies are rushing to include more of it in their business to keep consumers happy.
As per reports, Apple’s artificial intelligence (AI) chief, John Giannandrea is struggling to keep up with other rivals in the field like OpenAI, Google and Microsoft. And now there are some turf wars being had over the talent involved in this area.
Are Sunder Pichai & Tim Cook Fighting Over IITians?
According to The Information Srinivasan Venkatachary, Steven Baker, and Anand Shukla are three engineers in the AI sector are currently extremely wanted by some of the biggest companies in the world including Google and Apple.
The trio has worked at both of them initially with them first being a part of Apple’s search technology and modernizing it and then working at Google for their large-language models (LLMs).
The thing that has tickled some people is how two of these three engineers are IIT graduates.

Venkatachary is a B. Tech in Computer Science graduate from IIT Madras while Anand Shukla did his B. Tech in Computer Science from IIT Kanpur. Venkatachary and Shukla are both working at Google presently as the VP of Engineering, AI Product expansion and Distinguished Engineer at Google respectively.
Both also left Apple very soon after the other with Venkatachary doing so in October of 2022 while Shukla left merely a month after in November.
Reports claim that both Google and Apple want them with the engineers personally feeling that Google has an advantage in the LLMs section. It is said that Sundar Pichai, Google’s CEO had personally looked after the engineers to keep them happy with the company while Apple CEO Tim Cook had also worked to persuade them to stay on with Apple and not leave.
According to reports the engineers are involved in “Google’s initiatives to lower training costs and boost the precision of LLMs” and also the products that are created with the help of these models.
