As if COVID-19 wasn’t enough, 2020 has made up its mind to befall as one of the worst years of this century. CyberPunk 2077, this year’s most awaited game, had to take itself down after being bombarded with complaints and bad reviews of bug errors and poor performance.
Although the company received around 480 million dollars on the first day, it has cost the founders of the game a loss of around 1 billion dollars within just a week of its release.
What Was The Hype Around The Game?
CyberPunk 2077 is a role-playing action game that was announced in May 2012 by CD Projekt and released on 10th December 2020. It was a highly anticipated success because of the glamour of its campaign way before its release, as actors of stardom such as Keanu Reeves make a guest appearance in the game. He is known for his role in The Matrix, one of the most prominent cyberpunk classics of all time.
However, within a few days of its release, gamers started complaining about technical glitches within the game, which ruined their entire gaming experience. In response, Sony and CyberPunk 2077 had given an apology to all those who had faced such difficulties.
What Have They Done About It?
However, Sony has responded rather boldly to these complaints recently, as the frustration among gamers kept spiking. They have announced that they will pull out the game from all PlayStation stores and process a full refund to all the customers who have bought the game after they confirm that a purchase has been made.
This was the statement that the game had posted on Twitter last week to which even Elon Musk replied.

This was the statement that Sony released on their ‘Ask Playstation’ page on Twitter.

Gamers have also been disappointed that reviewers have been complicit with the facade of the game’s success, as it hasn’t ranked less than 7/10 on any critical review platform. Metacritic, based on 69 reviews, has given the game a rating of 87/100.
How Have Gamers Responded To The Situation?
Twitterati has, as usual, found humour and frustration in the situation.

However, some are of the opinion that gamers should not lose hope and return the game for refund, as they claim that the issues may be fixed soon.
I’m telling everyone that bought the game. Don’t return it. CDPR will fix the mistakes. All of the Witcher games were ass when they first came out and look at them now

I can't believe Sony actually took off the game digitally from their PlayStation Store. I don't blame Sony for removing the game indefinitely for being so broken. I feel bad for @CDPROJEKTRED @CyberpunkGame @CDPRED_Support https://t.co/ebvAOrZ6xx

I really feel bad for @CDPROJEKTRED and @CyberpunkGame. Despite all of the bad optics and terrible performance, underneathe all that it's a pretty solid open world action/adventure game with linear but decent RPGs elements.

Some of the known glitches of the game are also being discussed online. A character known as Jackie stares right at the camera with a deadpan face. As soon as these characters look at the mirror, their head goes bald. Sometimes, the characters fail to walk on command.
This was definitely the most hilarious bug that I encountered in #Cyberpunk2077. It’s the deadpan look at the camera for me. pic.twitter.com/HyKIABCHRV

Apart from all the hilarity, it is interesting to note the irony in the situation. The Matrix was food for thought because it made us question our own reality and wonder whether we were living in a simulation. Hence, it’s funny that a simulated game based on the same concept is facing such apparent glitches within its interface.
