In the recent past, there has been an abundance of advancements and alterations in almost all fields with the advent of digitalization. Agritech is still one of those industries that are yet to find the information asymmetry. A rapidly growing start-up ecosystem has started actively playing its part in disrupting the agriculture sector.
Shaan Ray, a serial entrepreneur and technologist is all set to deep dive into the agricultural sector. He is known as one of the first to see the application of blockchain and distributed ledger technologies in multiple sectors and help companies to bring transparency and accountability. Ray has been working on creating Smart Farming which he believes that is going to change the face of the agricultural industry exponentially.
Ray’s inclination in this sector is fueled by his quest to build smart farms as his next entrepreneurial endeavor. He is now aiming to incorporate it into the source – agriculture. With a firm belief that the combination of artificial intelligence advances, IoT (Internet of Things), 5G connectivity, and robust tracking through blockchain will enable precision agriculture thus revolutionize the future of the agricultural industry. Ray believes that the focus should rather be on predictable and quality-based produce by the smart use of technology that exists strongly now.
This fairly new approach by Ray will create a more cost-effective and profitable environment. Smart farms thus created will use inclusive techniques for hydration, monitoring crop health, soil nutrition, and gauging harvesting readiness. Through his INDUS AG, he is aiming to further planting, watering, and harvesting, which will require minimum human attention.
Not only will his approach automate most of the processes in agricultural work but also allow the farm owners to put their lands for multiple uses which will support geo, weather, altitude, and market scans and help in determining what mix of crops to plant and what techniques to deploy to have a profitable harvest.
The smart farms are helping in solving many challenges across the spectrum of the traditional agriculture and growing agritech industry. Remote monitoring through drones has harnessed its potential in different industries and now Ray is all set to help realise its full potential in the agritech segment.
Ray in an interview with Ankush Khanna, shared that despite strong investment activity in the last few years, market penetration in the agriculture sector is still low. He shared that he is all prepared to start multiple pilot projects in the upcoming months which will leverage smart farming and contribute to the third green revolution powered by the latest technology, creating a sustainable, automated and profitable space.
