In an instant, Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, was no longer a billionaire, with the cut of the Adidas deal.

On Tuesday, the German sportswear company said that “Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech. Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness.”

The company now plans to immediately stop production of the Yeezy products, the name of West’s line with the brand and will be putting a stop to payments to Ye and his company.

With this, the Grammy winner who was valued at around $2 billion net worth, came crashing to just $400 million with Forbes Magazine stating that the Adidas deal of Ye was valued at around $1.5 billion.

This effectively removed him from the billionaire ranking on the Forbes list.

What Did Kanye Say?

In a recent interview with MIT research scientist Lex Fridman, Kanye West made several antisemitic comments. Among one was his recalling the offensive statements against Planned Parenthood when Fridman, a Soviet Union-born Jewish podcaster, spoke about how his family had suffered under the Nazi rule during the Holocaust.

To this Ye stated that “We are still in the Holocaust. A Jewish friend of mine said, ‘Go visit the Holocaust Museum,’ and my response was, let’s visit our Holocaust Museum: Planned Parenthood.”

He also tried to connect the 6 million Jews that were murdered by the Nazis to the “over 20 million have died by the hands of abortion,” and that “Fifty percent of Black deaths a year is actually abortion. It’s not the cop with the knee, it’s not Black-on-Black violence and gang violence, not heart attacks, it’s actually abortion. The most dangerous place for a Black person in America is in their mother’s stomach.”

All his numbers about abortions and more are unsubstantiated and have no credible support to them from verified sources.

His antisemitic angle to this came when he said “It’s not racism; that’s too wide of a term. It’s genocide and population control that Black people are in today in America, that is promoted by the music and the media that Black people make, that Jewish record labels get paid off of.”

Thrown Out Of Skechers HQ

Not long after the downfall of the Adidas deal, news came out that Ye was escorted out of the athletic shoemaker Skechers’ California headquarters.

The rapper had shown up at the HQ just a day after Adidas ended its collaboration with him due to his antisemitic comments. The company in its official statement said that he “arrived unannounced and without invitation at one of Skechers’ corporate offices in Los Angeles. Considering Ye was engaged in unauthorized filming, two Skechers executives escorted him and his party from the building after a brief conversation.”

Sketchers also confirmed that “Skechers is not considering and has no intention of working with West,” further adding that “We condemn his recent divisive remarks and do not tolerate antisemitism or any other form of hate speech.”

The impact of his comments is far-reaching though with more and more brands and organisations cutting ties with the rapper because of his comments. Adding to the growing list of brands that have distanced themselves is Gap, Balenciaga, Def Jam record label, Foot Locker, TJ Maxx, Vogue, JPMorgan Chase, Twitter, and Instagram.

Not just that but Madame Tussauds London has also removed Kanye West’s wax figure stating that “Ye’s figure has been retired from the attraction floor to our archive. Each profile earns their place at Madame Tussauds London and we listen to our guests and the public on who they expect to see at the attraction.”
