American-Indian scholar V.A. Shiva Ayyadurai has appealed to Elon Musk, the present Chief Executive Officer of Twitter, to take up his position as CEO of Twitter after Musk resigns.
The post shared by Ayyadurai, “the inventor of email,” earned a lot of responses, where people expressed their support for him or dissatisfaction with his candidacy.
Why Did Elon Musk Decide To Resign?
Elon Musk, the billionaire and current CEO of Twitter, conducted a poll last week where he asked Twitter users to vote on whether he should stay as the Chief Executive Officer of Twitter or step down from his post. The poll results revealed that the majority wants him to give up his position.
Respecting the decision of 57 percent of the voters, Musk declared that he will resign from his office after he finds a capable and suitable substitute.
Ayyadurai’s Qualifications And Email Controversy
Born in Mumbai, Dr. Shiva Ayyadurai possesses four degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) along with a Ph.D. in biological engineering. His degrees include two undergraduate degrees in computer science and electrical engineering and two master’s degrees in mechanical engineering and visual studies.
Addressing Elon Musk, Ayyadurai tweeted, “I am interested in the CEO position @Twitter. I have 4 degrees from MIT & have created 7 successful high-tech software companies. Kindly advise of the process to apply.”
The 59-year-old Indian-origin researcher, Ayyadurai, claims to have “invented email” at the age of 14. This is a controversial assertion since the American computer programmer Ray Tomlinson is popularly known to be the originator of the email.
In another post, Ayyadurai tweeted, “Thanks for your support on my recent tweet @elonmusk re: the CEO position @Twitter. I believe anyone wanting THIS role must be fully transparent and publicly post their qualifications. My experience began when I invented email at age 14, long before I earned 4 degrees from MIT.”

Various Responses To Ayyadurai’s Post
Some people have shown their support for Ayyadurai’s candidature and responded positively to his posts on Twitter, while others have expressed disapproval of his achievements.
A Twitter user called Greg Autry wrote, “I’ve observed that degrees is one of the last thing @elonmusk looks at when hiring (sic). (Though you’re education creds are indeed formidable.).”
Another user tweeted in response to Ayyadurai’s post, “Best of luck to you. I’d expect your application to be rejected because you mention your education.”
Few other tweets were in favor of Ayyadurai’s candidacy.
Whoever gets the post of Twitter’s CEO will no doubt have a difficult job. Elon Musk had to go through a lot of criticism in the past few months; his successor will also have to face multiple challenges and ordeals. Whether Ayyadurai is a worthy candidate or not is yet to be seen.
