India really made history with the successful landing of the Chandrayaan-3 on the moon’s south pole on 23rd August 2023.
A big achievement for India’s space programme as a developing country to be among the big leagues and something that many had actually ridiculed the country for even attempting.
Given the scale of it, people across the world, celebrities, politicians and other influential personalities congratulated India for this, but it seems that there were still some who saw it as a way to mock the country.
A UK (United Kingdom) journalist came under heavy fire after referring to India as “poverty-stricken” and asked the country to return the aid that the UK had given so far since we seem to be doing so well.
What Did The Journalists Say?
UK’s GB News anchor, Patrick Christys during his segment spoke about the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission, but it was what he said that angered many people leading to him getting mercilessly roasted on social media.
He said “I would like to congratulate India for landing on the dark side of the moon. I would also like to invite India to return the 2.3 billion pounds of aid money that we sent them between 2016 and 2021. We are also set to give the 57 million pounds next year. But I think the British taxpayer should keep a hold of that. We should not be giving money to countries with a space program as a rule.”
He further added “If you can afford to fire a rocket at the dark side of the moon, you shouldn’t be coming to us with your handout. India reportedly has 229 million people living in poverty.
According to the UN, it is the highest number anywhere in the world. It is also the 5th largest economy in the world with an annual GDP of around 3.75 trillion dollars. Why are we paying to help poverty-stricken Indians when their own government won’t bother.”

It seems he was actually proud of it in some way, considering he posted the clip on his official Twitter (X) account with the caption “I appear to have enraged Indian Twitter”.

It seems that UK journalists were sharing a brain cell during this time since Sophie Corcoran tweeted something similar saying, “The uk shouldn’t be sending aid to countries with space programs so advance they can land rockets on the other side of the moon.”
She also wrote “India has become the first country to successfully land a spacecraft near the south pole of the moon so why did we send them £33.4 million in foreign aid which is set to rise to £57 million in 24/25. Time we get our money back.”
Obviously, all of them got roasted badly by netizens who reminded them exactly how much the UK had looted from not just India but its many colonies across decades and centuries.
