No matter how much we try to appear sober and truthful, we end up saying “White Lies” on a daily basis. Here are 10 such lies we Indians are guilty of saying:

1. “Oh yea, I’ll be there in 5 minutes.”

No wonder who we are or where we are, we have a general tendency of saying, “I’ll be there in 5 minutes – The husbands, the employees, the girlfriends, the teenage son, the wives getting ready, the kids playing in the playground so on and so forth.

2. “I will definitely finish the work tomorrow!”

The pressure is always there yet we like to delay things by consoling and confronting ourselves by saying, “I for sure will complete the work by tomorrow.”

3. “If India continues not to perform, I shall stop watching this Cricket Series…”

How many times have you promised yourself not to watch the “so-so” series if India performs terribly? Yet we are seen fighting for the remote to watch the next match, hoping for a magic!

4. “Wow, Aunty the food you prepared was just so delicious!”

That awkward moment when you cannot even slurp the food in but you have to fake a smile and compliment the female host for her food. At times, the food might just be average but following your sanskaar of gratitude you are forced to rate it is “super excellent.”

5. “Don’t Worry, I’m fine!”

The Tsunami of tears might be flowing from our eyes, we might be neck deep in the sorrow of pain. However, still if somebody tries to confront us, our reply would be – “Don’t worry, I’m fine!”

6. “I didn’t do it”

It is not just Chatur aka Silencer of 3 Idiots who utters this phrase on a daily basis, we all have this habit of mumbling it wasn’t me once in a while. Ah, being the generous one we simply do not wish to take credits for every second thing!

7. “You are looking so nice!”

We Indians generally have a tendency of thinking too much and so we end up saying white lies. For instance, we would definitely not want to break a girl’s heart and so whenever she asks, “How Am I Looking?” Our standard reply is – “Wow, you are looking so beautiful.”

On a Sunday afternoon one of a friend pings you for a casual talk in the evening but being a complete lazy bone and not wanting to move even an inch out of your couch, you ping him/her back – Oh, I too was looking forward to meet you but damn my boss…he just called me up and gave some  work to finish on an urgent basis. I’m sorry to say but I won’t be able to meet you today.

Imagine such scenes where – A friend got promotion and you just became unemployed, he passed but you flunked, he got the hottest girl of the town whereas you just had a break up. 12. You have lost weight

We all are not honest like Yo Arvind Kejriwal to tell a fat lady fat. We are actually more like Modi and Rahul Gandhi with lots of manipulation running in our minds. And so we often reply,” Oh my God Sheila, you have really lost weight!” instead of  ”Are you competing with Bharti Singh? – Baby Elephant!”
