We’ve often heard of Mumbai being called the ‘City of Dreams’ or the ‘Land that never sleeps’.
People sang the song “Bombay Meri Hai” with such pride!
However, can that be said for the scenario of Bombay today?
I compiled a few photographs of Bombay and Mumbai to note the drastic change in the city’s conditions.
1. Colaba
Then
vs
Now
The traffic you’d find on this route is unfathomable. To enjoy your visit there, you have to plan your trip at least a day before.
2. Dadar Railway Station
Then
vs
Now
This change is definitely a result of negligence. If the station was well kept, it wouldn’t be in the state that it is today.
3. Cuff Parade
Then
vs
Now
I guess we Mumbaikars can say goodbye to empty lands.
4. Streets
Then
vs
Now
At this point, if there aren’t any potholes in my route, I am more astonished than relieved.

6. Bombay Central
Then
vs
Now
Though the station looks presentable from outside, it is, according to me, a mess on the inside.
7. Churchgate
Then
vs
Now
Guess Mumbai’s ‘icon’ is the only thing that’ll be maintained.

I went through the article What’s Changed From ‘Bombay’ To ‘Mumbai’ and was very much impressed by the vintage photos of ‘Bombay’. The writer has done a good job.
In this article, at No.7, it is mentioned as ‘CHURCH GATE’ and in my opinion it should have been mentioned as ‘VICTORIA TERMINUS’ (VT) and presently it is known as ‘CST’.
Please clarify and let me have your feedback.
