The word ‘wealthy’ invokes many emotions and visuals for us. For many, it’s money, for a few, it’s health, time, love, contentment, relationship, and so on. Now, suppose we were to pair this term as an adjective with ‘cities’.
In this case, the phrase might call to mind a mental image of huge concrete jungles, structurally aligned to form a picturesque landscape of buildings, palatial homes, brands, boutiques, skyscrapers with blinding lights. In fact, many a time, when looked at from afar at night, these glittering cities look like stardust in the universe.
Many of us have our own perceptions, lived and imagined, of what a wealthy city might look like, but to what extent are these imaginations true?

Henley & Partners, in collaboration with the wealth intelligence firm New World Wealth, has developed a report on the top 50 wealthiest cities in the world, offering in-depth statistics.
This report is based on expert analysis calculating total billionaires, millionaires, and centi-millionaires – individuals worth over $100 million – living in these major global hubspots. The report also analyses how these numbers have changed over the past year.

New York, London, and Paris have long been and continue to hold their positions as some of the wealthiest cities across the globe; we also have a few surprising entries and unexpected risers.
One standout is the Bay Area in the United States, which includes San Francisco and Silicon Valley. This region has experienced a staggering 98% growth in its millionaire population over the last decade.
As the wealthy continue to flock to these thriving urban centres, it seems like some former hotspots are starting to lose their appeal. London, notably, is the only city in the top 10 that has seen a decline in its millionaire population. As fortunes rise and fall, these cities reflect not just where the money is, but where the future might be headed as well.
