Swati Maliwal Compares Kejriwal’s Lavish CM Residence To Pathetic State Of Delhi

-

Swati Maliwal, AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP, has been going on a major rampage attacking Delhi’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal about the condition of Delhi and pointing out the difference to the latter’s own house.

Recently she posted a video on her Instagram account drawing a comparison to the lavishness of Kejriwal’s residence in Delhi called ‘Sheesh Mahal’ and the conditions in the national capital.

What Did Swati Maliwal Show In The Video?

Swati Maliwal on January 26, posted a video on her Instagram account with the caption, “Ye Delhi hai mere yaar!”

The recent attacks by Maliwal about Delhi’s condition, however, have gotten mixed reactions from netizens where one side is claiming that she is working with the BJP party to destroy her own party, right before the elections at that too while some feel she is doing the right thing.

This is not the first time that Swati Maliwal has come out strongly against AAP, especially Kejriwal. Things soured between the former Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief and the party as well as Kejriwal after she alleged having been assaulted by Bibhav Kumar the personal assistant (PA) to then Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, at the Chief Minister’s residence in May 2024.

In her First Information Report (FIR) she accused Kumar of culpable homicide, wrongful restraint, assault or use of criminal force to a woman with intent to disrobe, criminal intimidation, and insulting the modesty of a woman.

A few days ago the Rajya Sabha MP speaking with the media said, “Delhi ko Delhi rehne do, zaada Africa ka Sudan banane ki jarurat nahi hai” (Let Delhi be Delhi, don’t make it like Africa’s Sudan).

She further pointed out the deteriorating conditions in Delhi such as broken roads, overflowing sewers, garbage not being disposed of properly, and more.

She has also several times used Kejriwal’s residence ‘Sheesh Mahal’ to attack him for being disconnected from the common people while making that his tagline.

She was quoted by news agency ANI saying, “Delhi has never been in such poor condition. Roads are crumbling, sewers are overflowing, garbage piles up everywhere, and people are getting contaminated water. In places like Dwarka colonies and Bhalswa slums, residents are forced to drink dirty tap water. It’s so polluted that even touching it can make someone fall ill. Water is meant to be free, yet people have to buy clean water daily from outside. Meanwhile, the ‘Sheesh Mahal’ has a water system worth crores, but ordinary people are supplied with contaminated and poisonous water. I say to them, ‘Delhi ko Delhi rehne do, zaada Africa ka Sudan banane ki jarurat nahi hai.’”

She also attacked Kejriwal saying, Roaming only in protected areas isn’t the same as working for the people. Leave your air-conditioned office and ‘Sheesh Mahal,’ and truly work for the people.”

In November last year, Maliwal poured dirty water outside the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Atishi to protest against the water condition being supplied to residents of certain areas in the national capital.

According to reports, she had surveyed some residential homes in Dwarka and claimed that dirty, black, foul-smelling water was being supplied to their houses. She then collected water from the tap of one of the homes and threw it outside the Delhi CM’s residence.

She said, “The people of Sagarpur, Dwarka had called me and the situation there is very bad… I went to a house and black water was being supplied there. I filled that black water in a bottle and brought that water here, at the Chief Minister’s residence. Since 2015, we have been hearing that next year everything will be fine… That black water which I have brought – have they no shame, will Delhi drink this?”

Soon after the assault case, many people alleged that Swati Maliwal would leave the AAP party or that she was secretly working for the BJP and would soon switch. However, she clarified in May 2024 that she would not be resigning from the party.

Speaking with The Indian Express in an interview she said “If I was not speaking the truth, maybe (relations between her and the party could have been mended)… Despite being beaten up so badly, I tried to compose myself because there was a larger election underway and I knew this issue would be politicised. I understand it.

I tried to control myself, but no way… They have harmed the entire women’s movement by victim shaming. I will stay in the party because it does not belong to two or three people. I have given it my sweat and blood too.”
