I want to initialize this article with an important question. You’ve 22k in your pocket and you want to buy a phone. Would you buy an iPhone 5C (or 4S) or a flagship phone from the house of a good Chinese gadget maker?
I know most of the people would opt for the obvious first choice but we really want you to consider your decision again after going through this article about an 18 month old phone maker called OnePlus, which is indeed a sub-brand of Oppo.
Yeah it may sound like a toddler’s mathematics class but the gadget line that the company is offering is certainly worth a look.
PRODUCT LINE
ONEPLUS ONE
The tagline of the phone is “Never settle”, especially when it comes to asking for features in a smartphone. Eh, that’s pretty clever!
Following the stream, the phone maker hasn’t settled for a mediocre phone because they have manufactured a device which is absolutely stunning.
WOOS:
- Full HD 5.5 inches screen with Gorilla Glass 3
- CyanogenMod 11S operating system
- 2.5 GHz QualcommSnapdragon 801 processor mated to 3GB of RAM
- 13 megapixel rear shooter with Slow-Mo and 4K video recording
- Powerful 3100mAh battery
- 16GB/64GB versions (Non-expandable)
PRICE:
- 18,999 for 16 GB version
- 21,999 for 64 GB version
MEH:
The phone is almost “impossible” to buy, especially the 16 GB version. This is an ‘invite only’ phone and invite lasts for a mere 24 hours. Tuesday is the sale day for the phone where you can get the handset without an invite but they generally get out of stock in 8-10 minutes every time.
VERDICT:
No gadget is as good as this when it comes to smartphone-to-price ratio. If you’ve no issues with an offer like name (Buy 1 Pizza Get 1 Free) and “guts” to buy the phone then you should because the phone is worth the hard work.
ONEPLUS TWO
The OnePlus One was a massive success worldwide, regardless of the invite-only availability so after tasting the success with One, OnePlus will release the next version of the series called – OnePlus Two by the third quarter of the year.
WOOS:
- 5 inches screen (QHD display expected)
- Cyanogen-mod/ OxygenOS (ROM based on Android 5.0 Lollipop)
- Snapdragon 810 processor mated to 4GB of RAM
- 16 megapixel rear shooter with Slow-Mo and 4K video recording
- Even better 3,300mAh battery
- 32GB/64GB versions
PRICE:
OnePlus hasn’t revealed the prices yet but we anticipate Two to remain at around a price tag of 30,000 for 32 GB version.
MEHS:
- OnePlus will continue the invitation system for it as well.
- The device won’t roll out before September so a wait of like 6 months is way too much.
- 30k for a Chinese phone where you already have the gadgets like HTC M8 Eye, Samsung Note 3, Motorola X2 and Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro under the same price point already available in the market.
VERDICT:
180 days is a very long time when we talk of it in terms of technological advancements. By the time OnePlus Two will come out, Meizu MX5 with 41MP camera and Xiaomi Mi5 with similar specifications but with lower prices will already be there in the market to give a very good fight. We would still like to hold our verdict till the official news comes out from the phone maker but it feels like it is going to be tough for this gadget.
ONEPLUS DR1 DRONE
The Chinese device maker had been teasing a new “game changing” gadget and on April fool’s day they unveiled a drone called – OnePlus DR1. Yes, A Drone! Most of the people didn’t believe the company but the drone isn’t a prank. OnePlus is indeed selling a drone that anyone can buy.
WOOS:
At 70mm of width, it is smallest drone available in market which makes it pretty handy and light to carry. With the charging of about 20-25 minutes, the drone can give you a flight time of 5-8 minutes which we should say is not that bad.
The remote control quad-copters can hit the markets later this month in the international market.
MEH:
We still doubt the competence and requirement of such a tiny drone. The unmanned device can do a very limited number of tasks since it measures only 2.75 inches and even won’t be able to lift a lot of weight.
PRICING:
$19.99 (Rs 1,250 approximately)
VERDICT:
If you figure out what to do with the drone then it is a pretty good buy considering the price this drone.
