Netizens Accuse Times Now Of Showing Staged Act As Mainstream, Political News

-

Media channels, or news channels in the country, have long been accused of sensationalising events just to get their TRPs soaring, with no regard for journalistic integrity. In recent news, Times Now’s Instagram page posted a video that has been called out for being staged.

What Happened?

In light of that, Times Now’s official Instagram handle posted a clip with the caption, “In a troubling incident in Uttar Pradesh, a Muslim girl was harassed by Muslim boys for talking to a Hindu boy. The boys removed her burqa, and the police intervened, inviting them to the station. The UP police politely requested them not to harass any girl again, addressing the issue with a calm yet firm response.”

The clip showed some men, alleged to be from the Muslim community, crowded around a girl, and one man was seen pulling her headscarf.

The video then shifts to the men walking Bentley, as if the police had punished them. However, what struck most netizens was the incredibly off-putting feeling surrounding the clip and how everything seemed so staged.

Surprisingly, the comments section was still left open, and many were calling out the channel for posting a fake clip. User @rishika1009 wrote, “They’re definitely acting! It’s so damn palpable. Even Times Now has stooped down to such journalism or the lack of it!”

Another user, @mahendra_tomar16, wrote, “Maar kam acting jyada lag rahi hai…”

A third commented, “Last mai sab acting kr rhe h…. Ye bikau media or followers k chker mai kuch bhi dikha rhe h.”

One user wrote, “Omg… amazing actors… the way they are walking, it’s clear none got any punishment.” To this, another responded with, “They have acted amazingly in the first shot as well, but not good enough in the second shot. If you know, you know.”

Another user joked that “Jo inme sabse badi age ka hai… Sabse umda acting usi ki hai.”

Several called out the clip for being staged and that the people were overacting, including comments like “Why does the men walking crippled look so staged?” or “Very, very bad acting, what is this drama???” or “50 rupaye kaat overacting ka” and “Those officers are more aware that’s why they didn’t hit a single on the actor’s face… because it’s a matter of their daily earning.”

This is not the first time that Times Now has been at the forefront of spreading fake information. A 2018 report by Alt News has listed a few of them, including one from June 2017, where “Times Now claimed it has accessed a ‘conversion rate card.’”

As per their findings, Times Now Editor-in-Chief Rahul Shivshankar showed a “photoshopped piece of paper” claiming that “Mysterious rate cards like the one on your screen are being distributed…. Look at what this rate card says, it puts up a price on religion, on your faith; if you look closely at the rate card, you will see, ladies and gentlemen, you will see interesting details.”

According to Alt News, though, “The so-called mysterious rate card has been in circulation for years and had been busted as fake news as early as 2014.”
