It was a week of rejoice for Real Madrid as they flew to the top of La Liga with a game in hand to spare, with further good news following as bitter title rivals Barcelona and Sevilla drew their fixtures.

The week started off with all the top teams facing stiff competition and yet second placed Barcelona were still tipped to be comfortable winners against Real Betis.

However, the game was the total inverse of the predicted scenario as Barcelona were bossed by a hardworking and defensively organized Real Betis side and it was Betis who scored the 1st goal of the game and broke the deadlock in the 75th minute via Alex Alegria.

But even then, Barcelona tried to push for an equalizer and finally got one in the 90th minute as Luiz Suarez slotted home to make it 1-1 and avoid an embarrassing defeat for the Catalan giants in a tough fixture.

It was then Atletico who dropped points as they are now in the 4th position after playing a goalles draw against Alaves, who have developed some sort of a reputation to play well against the big teams of La Liga.

And next up, it was Sevilla’s turn to drop points as the underdogs of the La Liga, who have been in phenomenal form under their new manager Jose Sampaoli (and even managed to beat Real Madrid) were beaten with a dominant scoreline of 3-1 by Espanyol in a fantastic display by their opponents.

Espanyol started strong right off the bat as they got a penalty in the 1st minute itself, which was converted by Diego Antonio Reyes to make it 1-0 for Espanyol.

Sevilla claed into the game inthe 19th minute after star loanee Stevan Jovetic scored after a good pass by Samir Nasri.

But even then, it didn’t prove enoug as Espanyol scored twice to win the win 3-1, with the 3nd goal being scored roght beofre the half time whistle by Marc Navarro as Reyes turned provider by assisting him and the 3rd goal coming in the 70th minute by Gerard Moreno after being assisted by Navarro.

And the last fixture was a tough cookie at the Santiago Bernabeu as Real Madrid hosted Real Sociedad, with Real Madrid having played a game fewer as compared to their rivals looking to extend their lead to 4 points.

It was a tough fixture as Real Madrid star man Cristiano Ronaldo was booed twice by a section of Bernabeu supporters after giving away possession on two occasions.

But the galactic superstar responded and shut his critics as his swift assist helped Mateo Kovacic to score and make it 1-0 for Real Madrid. It was Ronaldo’s 3rd assist of the season and Kovacic had scored his 1st ever La Liga goal.
