“Not all rags to riches stories are stories of honest intentions and legitimate wins,” said filmmaker Hansal Mehta openly criticized the Indian edtech startup Byju’s. His remark comes as the edtech giant has been plagued by challenges ranging from lawsuits and auditing issues to layoffs and boardroom exits.
Hansal Mehta’s Tweet
In his most recent tweet, the Omerta director described his own encounter with Byju’s agent who came to his house to offer programmes. He complained about how the Byju representative was attempting to demonstrate that his daughter was academically weak and needed Byju’s products.

He wrote, “They tried to convince her that she was poor academically in order to make an extra buck. I had to drive them out of my house. I was trolled for mocking the so-called rags to riches story.”
“I had to delete my tweets because of the abuse. As their house of cards begins to collapse it’s time to remind ourselves that not all rags to riches stories are stories of honest intentions and legitimate wins,” he added.

People Agreed With Hansal’s Claims
Ramnivas Kumar, who agreed with Hansal Mehta, stated that a similar thing happened to him as well.
“Byju’s guys came, claimed big things, gave gadgets to kids, etc. After a few days, it sucked and we withdrew. I Know that if my kids will be interested to learn about something then so many educational apps, YouTube videos are available for free,” he tweeted.
Worth Becoming An OTT Series
He implied that the challenges confronting Byju’s were worthy of becoming an OTT series, and even hinted at a title for the series: “Scam S4 – The Byju Scam.”

Mehta was responding to a tweet he wrote in October 2021 in which he termed Byju’s “a total sham” and indicated that the firm’s operations were “material” for Scam season 4. Many people commented on Mehta’s tweet, saying the chaos at Byju would be entertaining to see.
